Default new? neu? new.

Hi. New member here, just saying hello. Major music geek, natch, particularly morose indie pop music from the '80s and '90s, anything dark, atmospheric, haunting, cinematic, beautiful, eerie, dreampop, slowcore, coldwave, shoegaze, library music, freak-folk (whatever that is), electronic, some Americana.

I'll take a look around, see what I think, hope to meet some interesting souls with whom I can share and discuss music and maybe some pop culture in general. Thanks for reading. ...Ye gods. I used an emoticon. Kill me now.

Welcome, hope to see you around. What are some bands you like? Is it safe to assume you like NEU!?

Hi. Thanks. Yes, I like Neu and Can. I listed others in my profile info, but to repeat and expand: Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Stereolab, Broadcast, Radiohead, Cocteau Twins, TMC, Throwing Muses, Pale Saints, Neko Case, Breathless, Black Marble, Algiers, Sixteen Horsepower, Raveonettes, Exitmusic, SVIIB, Death & Vanilla, Pale Dian... there's more, but that'll do for now.

Neko Case! You have good taste. PLEASE for the love of god stay and don't disappear. There are hardly any other women here.

Hi, thanks. Yeah, I hear you. In truth, I was a member of this forum several years ago under a different username. I hung around as long as I could, but as is the case with most music forums or chat groups where I've spent time, there was a lot of typical 'bro' stuff going on - overt, sometimes covert and unintentional sexism, but still sexism nonetheless, and a lot of overt lookism. Rather than focusing on the musical talent of the female-identified musicians they admired, some people just focused on looks. Yeah, that's par for the course all over the interwebs, but I was hoping to find a respite from some of that in a forum devoted to music discussion. It didn't feel like a home for me, so I moved on. I returned with the hopes that maybe things have changed a little. We'll see. I'd like to meet more women with similar taste in music.

Oh I see; you do seem vaguely familiar. I lurked here quite a while before joining too but yes, that's certainly unfortunate that that was the case back then. I've experienced it on various online communities, too. Based on what you've listed ("particularly morose indie pop music from the '80s and '90s, anything dark, atmospheric, haunting, cinematic, beautiful, eerie" especially) though it seems like we have rather similar taste. Are you on Spotify or Tumblr or anything by the way? And do you happen to like Chelsea Wolfe, Julee Cruise or Anna von Hausswolff?

I don't do a lot of other social media besides FB and some internet forums, so no to Spotify or Tumblr. I was on Last.fm for a while, but that was ages ago and I don't think too many people use it now. I like Julee Cruise, but have to admit, I'm not a big fan of Chelsea Wolfe. I find her a little too overdramatic and it feels like she's trying too hard. Doesn't really do it for me. Sorry.

Welcome to the forum, Ruby Slippers!

I like Stereolab, Broadcast and Black Marble too. Glad to see a fan of their joined the forum. Tender Buttons is one of my favorite albums. Colour Me In is such an amazing a song imo. While on the subject of social media think about joining us in Plug.dj sometime.

Thanks, Neapolitan. Love your GIF avatar. Best thing I've seen on the interwebs today. FYI, it's Slipper, singular. And thanks for the wonderful Broadcast video clip reminder. They're one of my all time favorite bands. I was gutted when Trish passed in 2011. I'm part of a Broadcast fan group on FB and have discovered some other Broadcast/Stereolab-ish indie bands through them - Virginia Wing, the Soundcarriers, Death & Vanilla, Vanishing Twin, Beautify Junkyards. You might enjoy some of them if you haven't checked them out already. Virginia Wing is especially Broadcast-y, while Death & Vanilla and Beautify Junkyards pick up on some of Broadcast's hazy psych-folkiness. The Soundcarriers share elements of both Broadcast & Stereolab, and Vanishing Twin picks up where Stereolab left off with Sound Dust and Cobra & Phases.
