The Batlord 10-05-2016 11:46 AM

It was working earlier. He's basically a dweeb in a Slayer shirt.

lol poseur metal ***

It's like I'm looking in a mirror or something.

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 11:56 AM

Slayer is awesome though, so like, wtf you saying m8?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-05-2016 12:01 PM

Nah, you need to step your metal shirt game up. It's all about the obsecure or offensive.

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 12:04 PM

I don't really care though. I just wear a band shirt if I'm a huge fan of the band. Now I want to get a Carly shirt, if they exist.

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 12:05 PM

Plus I know zero obscure bands/artists anyway.

**** you, if you don't have a Slayer shirt then you're a ****ing poseur. Either Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest would be an acceptable substitute so long as the shirt wasn't from Hot Topic or Spencer's. That's just entry-level ****, bro.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-05-2016 12:09 PM

How many people wearing Slayer shirts actually listen to Slayer though? I was at an H&M the other day with my friends and they had Slayer shirts there. I like wearing my Darkthrone/Pig Destroyer/etc shirts because whenever I go to a record store I end up having a 15 minute discussion about the band on my shirt with the cashier.

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 12:09 PM

I got mine from Pulp, if you've heard of it. Oh ****, maybe I am a poseur.

Which is why I specified that they can't be from Hot Topic or Spencer's. Any other teeny bopper store should be assumed to be likewise illegitimate. Although that's kind of a fun trip that the world's foremost Satanic band has clothing in H&M... and Slayer probably signed off on that too... Well I can't be too mad. They probably aren't millionaires after all.

And mine came from a hole in the wall metal and punk record store run by a middle-aged OG with long, possibly unwashed hair who wears old, grungy band shirts with the sleeves crappily cut off. That was the first place I ever saw Songs About ****ing too. If I'd known that it was a legit record I would have picked it the **** up at 16, but you live and learn. The point is that I couldn't be more legit.

But the issue is, with so many of the Hot Topic ones around, how do you know if they're legit into the band? If I saw someone in a Maiden shirt I wouldn't feel compelled to strike up a conversation with them because chances are they've heard 1 or 2 albums, but if they're wearing a Bathory shirt? You bet I am.

I'd take a chance with a Slayer shirt. My dad has a pretty sweet one.

The more stylized the shirt the bigger chance that it's poseur.

To be honest Slayer is probably an exception. I'd be more suspect of Megadeth, Metallica, and Maiden shirts. And let's not even get started on the Nirvana and Zeppelin shirts...

Yes.

The Batlord 10-05-2016 01:07 PM

Don't remember seeing any Megadeth shirts, but I haven't stepped into a Hot Topic/Spencer's/whatever in years, so things might have changed. But yes on the others. So far as I know there is no way to be sure that someone didn't buy a Metallica shirt at a poseur store unless it's a legit tour t-shirt. And no one would care if it wasn't pre-Black Album anyway.

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 01:45 PM

Dude, I'm wearing a Metallica shirt right now, wtf. Can't believe you are the guys that just judge of a ****ing shirt. Just ask me about the band first before you assume.

Not judging Metallica shirts, just the ability to judge their authenticity. If you bought your Metallica shirt at a mall then you can probably go **** yourself.

Against the rest of their stuff: 4/10

On it's own: 2/10

Compared with their other stuff: 3/10

Lucem Ferre 10-05-2016 02:04 PM

What about a King Diamond shirt?

Thelonious Monkey 10-05-2016 02:05 PM

Kill em all is my favorite album from them as well. Ride the lightning is a close second, master of puppets is alright but meh.

The Batlord 10-05-2016 02:05 PM

Compared with their other stuff: can't we just listen to that instead?/10

Pretty much. But "The Thing that Should Not Be" and "Leper Messiah" are heavy as ten-ton balls.
