Well I guess I'm guilty for not seeing satire.

Can we at least all agree that seriously campaigning to be a mod is kind of weird?

EDIT: Oh, and apologies Carpe.

Frownland 06-11-2015 09:23 PM

If I were mod, I would ban a person who would try such a thing on sight.

I'll make you watch episodes of baseball that even diehard fans think are boring as hell.

Dude, even I know you don't call a televised baseball game an "episode".

Frownland 06-11-2015 10:17 PM

^Watching full games would be too harsh, so I'd show him clips that I've deemed episodic.

Reverse psychology attempt: failed.

I was taking part in a service learning trip that the university offers every year. Here's some more information if you're curious :)

That's awesome, what a neat opportunity. Did you learn a lot?

Totally, everything from Peruvian culture and government, to coffee production, to the country's long and convoluted past. The most eye-opening things were probably the huge abuse and child prostitution problem, the role of Roman Catholicism in history and present-day culture, as well as the complexity of race relations (the indigenous and the Spanish, and everything in between). Definitely got a lot more out of it than I have from some of my university courses.

That's great! I've looked into programs offered abroad through my school but everything seems very passive and touristy- looks like your uni is doing it right.

I had a roommate a few years ago who was adopted out of Lima and brought here to Northern California. She goes back to visit her birth mother every few years and said that when she was young she had a hard time coming to terms with being put up for adoption until she visited as an adult and really got a sense of how bad the human trafficking problem is in the cities - she said once she grasped te future she may have had if not adopted she became much closer with and understanding of her birth mom. If I remember correctly child prostitution is illegal but still widespread, and pimps only get like 5 years if caught. Crazy.

I won't go into the anti-imperialist rant I'm inclined to, but I'm glad your experience was fulfilling and not a whitewashed vacation. :)

Totally. We visited Cuzco and Machu Picchu near the end of our trip, and we weren't used to seeing tourists. We kinda felt like we had actually seen the real Peru, and it was frustrating seeing all these rich white faces walking around in these tourist traps. In Cuzco, child prostitution is at its worst, and it's precisely because of the tourism industry.

Don't worry, no ranting needed, we're on the same page here. :D

Wild Alfred! I've always wanted to travel.

Updated snapshot - My fiance's and my parents are visiting this afternoon to celebrate our engagement and our respective birthdays.

Polished my boots and straightened up the Manor. Looking forward to a great weekend.

RoxyRollah 06-15-2015 05:21 PM

#5.

Goofle 06-15-2015 05:22 PM

1 or 4.

Frownland 06-15-2015 05:31 PM

I say #4 because they look like they make you happy.

Goofle 06-15-2015 05:31 PM

The Frown man understands.

DwnWthVwls 06-15-2015 05:37 PM

1 or 4.

Where's your selfie stick bro?

The Batlord 06-15-2015 05:44 PM

1 and 4 look too boxy, and not very foxy. 3 makes you look like my grandmother, so I'd choose another. 5 looks like shit, so just fucking chuck it. I'd say 2 makes me least likely to spew.

RoxyRollah 06-15-2015 05:51 PM

I would not lick you in the tush.
I would not touch you with a proxy.
I would not touch you at all, Roxy.
