Heh I understood it but now you point it out you're right, that makes no sense at all. It's quite funny though.

If it isnt, then so be it.

well in the interest of putting it all out there, and so that my sentences aren't confusing I shall bear my soul...

The reason I lead to things this way is because of the first lessons of internet forums; never say what you know your opponent is talking about before he does. This way he can't outright deny it.

I get the idea that "hey Adidasss learned English later than everyone else, isn't that a riot" but its not logical. The assumption that anyone knows a language better than others because its primary is as nonsensical as it is backward. I don't know what you think you can teach children, but I'd imagine that an adult, or even a teenager would have a better grasp of grammatical structure than would, say an 8 year old.

They may learn the language better, but it means little to nothing.

Example: I live with an Indian gentleman who grew up there, and English was his primary language. He told me recently that he attempted to teach english abroad when he lived in Singapore. He could tell them what wasn't correct, but he couldn't tell them why.

Grammar is more easily learned when you cross languages. I learned more about English studying German than I did as an English major in college.

The reason I flip out about it [it being the idea that its funny] is because there is a perceived idea that I'm some arrogant son-of-a-bitch who tries to pretend he's better than everyone else cause he's "smart" and its not the case.

Its apparently conventional wisdom because when someone like this happens everyone makes a huge point about it with lines like "did Marjin just explain something to Big3? wonders never cease" or "Adidasss ppwnz big3 roflmao!!!1!!."

I don't recall a time when I've ever been as arrogant as some of the people on here in regards to intellectualism, especially some of the people I've "Clashed" with in my time here. In all honesty I think I get a bum rap and it pisses me off to no end to be perfectly honest. it seems to me that a large populace on the boards has a terrible idea of me in their heads. I spend a lot of time here, and I try and contribute as much as I can but I feel its maligned by some ridiculous stereotype.

And not to pull this card, but recently the old ladies been in the hospital (so I can't sue her computer) and the keyboard I use, to a computer from 02 has been so beat up that I use my function keys (F12 and the like) to replace keys I'm missing. Excuse the typos, I'll get a new keyboard when my cars back on the road and I can pay my god damned college loans.

Agreed.

The English curriculum over here is a joke - for three consecutive years of high school they dish out the old "This word is a noun and this one is a verb... don't confuse the two." and for some reason, people have major trouble grasping these concepts.

While enduring this tripe, I was also doing Latin as a subject and I learned more about grammar from half a year of that than I had ever learned in English classes... the pluperfect tense, the genitive case, the difference between who/whom, the subjunctive, the passive mood, reported speech etc... all things which the English curriculum pitifully fails to deliver.

Doing Latin has changed how I speak (I use many ablative absolutes) and has expanded my vocabulary (doing justice to old texts in translation requires a good vocabulary).
