From a non-skier, what is the advantage of bigger skis? I could see that they would provide lower ground pressure and not sink as easy, but doesn't that also cause greater friction and slow you down?

I honestly never realized there was that much to know about skis. I always thought there was a lot to the skill of skiing, but not the skis themselves.

tip of the iceberg, haha. Haven't even touched on stiffness/softness, the actual shape of the skis, and materials they make them out of. Foam core vs wood core, other materials like metal and fibreglass added to the cores, in what way those materials are added, the actual construction, wheather its cap or sidewall or a mixture of both, yeah, this is why I can talk for 3 hours about nothing else other than skis with certain friends of mine, haha.
