I'm gonna brush up on my Dutch and knowledge of audio equipment and sign up

s_k 02-09-2011 08:56 PM

Hahaha, you have to want or own an open reel deck.
Not kidding, that's a rule. There's a good reason for that, too.
Real audiophiles and open reel fanatics don't get along.
We've been there.

I must say I am making progress. Most of my friends have a beard now :D.
Beards make dudes look nicer and more interesting. The world looks better when guys have beards and girls have long hair :)

We both have the same sub-mission. Haha.
I was just getting into words with my cousin about her son's hair. He's like 16 and he just cut his hair to generic almost bald. She was all 'look how cute he is, thank god he finally cut that awful hair' and I commented that he looked like a lesbian, and he should wear a hat until it grows back. Because he did. My roommate even thought so. :D So none of them were very pleased. Whatev.

Here's my case in point why I'm on your side, and some disagree completely, but whatev. Love my hair and beard. By the way, my mom grew up in San Francisco in the 60s, smoking pot, being gay, all that fun stuff. So it's apart of me as well, except I like women (also). I'm a second generation hippie. Straight up flower grandchild. :P

I think the hair makes for extra character.

Dirty 02-09-2011 09:33 PM

I don't know how you guys rock the long beards. I have the beard growing abilities of an 11 year old so I can't grow one, but doesn't it get itchy and annoying?

chinese usually have very sparse facial hair, i did grow a stashe and beard last time and looked like some Imperial officer from a period drama, intemittently stroking his stringy face hair, not to mention that I grew my hair long as well, and looked also like some drug dealer from Hong Kong

Itchy? Never. Not once. Yeah.

Annoying? Also, no. I mean, if you're prone to fighting, which I'm not, it could be annoying for your oppenent to grab that but other than that, the only thing that makes it annoying is other people's opinions on the beard, being shoved down my throat usually.

It's only itchy in the very beginning when it's all bristly. Maybe later too if you have some kind of facial dandruff problem but I've never had that. Once it grows out it's soft and not itchy. Still, they can get sweaty and trap food: two disgusting things. I find that the only time I like having a beard is if I feel like my face is too fat.

Bit itchy when it really starts to grow, but after a week or two that's over and you won't notice a thing.
I can't understand guys who shave and then let it grow for a month or two all the time. That itches like hell every 3rd to 4th week :D

Ah, another thing.
I got yelled after on the streets a lot before I had a beard.
No idea what I did wrong.
The Beard solved it prefectly.
I should add that I sometimes scare old people and insecure girls/women.
I think I look pretty friendly, but somehow the confuse me with a terrorist or something.

Yea, well, at least the second part. I know what you mean, but it's worth it. Old people think I'm gonna kill em, and I'm all "Hi, how are you? Thanks, have a nice day /smile" and they're all like "huh?"

Apparently, for every girl that likes the beard and longer hair look, 9 others don't. Blah humbug. Is there a more beard friendly part of the world, s_k?

Exactly. We're helping the beard's image here.

Ehh... yeah, all of my friends? Some like it, some don't mind :).
You just have to look in a different direction I guess. Away from mainstream probably? I dunno.
I mean, I don't even know a girl who would mind if I had large speakers and a huge audio set in our shared living room.
I just can't understand how guys manage to run into girls who can't stand large speakers, can't stand a beard, are very jealous, don't want an oldtimer on the driveway etc.
All the girls I know are really nice :).

One female friend of me about my beard: "I never cared whether you had a beard, but now I'm actually starting to like it. It grows on me".
Yeah. My beard grows on her :D

WTH?? Ok I get the some chicks not liking beards and being jeolous but speakers and old men?? What are you talking about?lol

s_k 02-10-2011 03:38 PM

What? What exactly don't you understand?

Edit: Ah, I mean oldtimers as in cars. And large speakers. There's quite some girls who don't want large speakers in the living room :)

Ok...old cars in the driveway..meh never had that problem so I wouldnt know. The speakers issue you speak of I would just laugh as if I didnt even hear them gripe about it. Then decorate however I wanted to. Its only a democracy to an extent then its just...Get over it or leave.

s_k 02-10-2011 04:15 PM

Nah, I'd rather have a good relationship.
So I usually check these things in advance :D

HA! I'm one of those guys but I don't mind it. I keep my beard pretty thin.

s_k 02-10-2011 05:39 PM

Doesn't itch?

sillysillymary 02-10-2011 05:43 PM

I'm not sure that I'm following all of this, but just want to say that large speakers and a beard are hot. Don't really have a feeling one way or the other about whats in the driveway.

Not really :).
- Living room
- Bedroom
- Studio
- Studio monitors
- PC speakers (They are regular speakers, but I use them as PC speakers :)).

I should add that I have quite some old 'design' speakers to use in combination with vintage audio sets too. B&O, Grundig spheric speakers. etcetera. I also have a set of tiny sony active speakers, they are blue so I couldn't refuse buying them at a thrift store :).
But I have five pairs of speakers connected :).

I was peacefully drinking my Lionshead beer while also representing Moosehead with my beanie, but as usual, a photoshoot broke out after a few drinks. One reason I don't normally drink with these people
