Wiki seems to play down what I remember as the (first-wave) skinheads' characteristic trait: their perpetual, simmering aggression. They weren't just anti-conservative, they were anti-liberal and anti-intellectual too. They saw real or imagined insults at ever turn and were both laughed at and feared for their taunt, "You screwin' my bird?" in which "screwing"= staring at . Skinhead is definitely generally an insult over here. Not because of the nazi stuff, but because nobody likes their baldness being pointed out.
