I'm sure I do. I know my English is very good, but it isn't flawless (especially regarding proper use of tenses). But the thing is, I re-read most of my posts after I've posted them so if any of you do notice mistakes, I really didn't know I made them. That's why you have a license to bring my attention to them (or them to my attention...see??), I won't learn if someone doesn't point them out. Just sayin'.

Mojo 02-07-2010 01:03 PM

^^ You may well be right but i dont recall ever spotting a mistake in your posts. Most of the time I forget that English isn't your first language.

I know what you mean with funny (in a good way of course). That sentence: So I post rather only this dragon with small Petula, made my day.
Do not improve your English Petula!!

Hehe, thanks! It's ok when my english is funny and not horrible :D

I know I use simple words and I should improve my vocabulary. Also this funny sentence is some czech-english language :) I think in czech and write in english so my order of words isn't correct, I know. Still lot to do with it.
But believe me - I try and try and try ;) Two years ago it was worse than now because I used english only for school lessons. But to improve english with writing about hobbies is more fun.

And about mistakes... If somebody wants to, you can correct me, I am not upset about it.

Arya Stark 02-07-2010 05:04 PM

Ahh holy crap you're adorable.

I think it'd be fair to say that all members whose first language isn't english have (much) better grammar than me. Me being from an English speaking country.

Even that's debatable.

Petula07 02-08-2010 12:32 AM

Well, now I started to be really curious how people from UK or USA would write my sentece... :D I know it's not typical... But if you can tell me how it is correct, please, tell me...

So I post rather only this dragon with small Petula - how to write it in correct english?
(I wanted to write that I don't like my big photos so I post here dragon where I am small on the photo.)

Well I would probably say something like "I don't really like many photos of me, so I'll just post this picture where I look small next to a dragon," but the way you said it is much better.

Petula07 02-08-2010 12:41 AM

Better?? :D You probably mean I should write "I don't like my big photos so I post here dragon where I am small on the photo" rather than "So I post rather only this dragon with small Petula"...?
Hehe, I really like english so this disscussion is interesting for me.

Hmm well it's kind of an awkward sentence to begin with but by better I just meant that it sounds funny... in a good way, like I said.

It's probably not grammatically correct or anything but I don't know... I'm definitely not the best to consult in these matters.

Petula07 02-08-2010 03:38 AM

Ok :)

If you want it to sound a little less awkward, you could say:

Quote:

I don't like most of my big photos, so here's one I do like, next to a dragon. I'm kind of small next to it, but you can still see me.
Something like that.

Thank you. I will probably still write some awkward and funny sentences but I will try to remember this your sentence like example of correct english :)

Arya Stark 02-08-2010 05:27 AM

I like your awkward and funny sentences, they're cute, but it's good that you want to work on your English.
I love grammar and such, so I'm always here to help. [=

not that i am an english professional, but i think even your original sentence is fine. the difference i think is that you wrote it just trying to get an idea across, but we read it as something cute and clever. i love the way people whose english isn't their first language write and say things. it is so endearing. i also have a lot of respect for...well...most of the world for learning multiple languages. being an american, we take a foreign language in school and forget about it as soon as we are done. all i know is english and it really bothers me...

Petula07 02-08-2010 03:32 PM

:)
In Europe we are surrounded by many languages so when we want to go to some another country, we have to use different language. Of course it's able to speak english almost everywhere but I like to learn at least some sentences.
I speak english and I try to speak german but mostly I only understand german but don't speak. English is easier to learn because I can watch BBC, CNN, english movies... It really helps. But for example spanish? You have to spend long time to find some spanish book in Prague, they have it only in some shops. And they have millions of english books everywhere.

I really wish I had the motivation to learn a new language, I still remember about 10 Chinese sentences from when I holidayed there. I could also understand some verbal, but they speak rapidly so it was difficult to pick up, and I have no chance of writing or reading Chinese. I still remember basic French from school too. Pathetic really :(.

Petula07 02-08-2010 03:42 PM

I have a lot of motivation but not so much time :(
I would like to learn spanish, finnish and of course to improve my german.
We have borders with two german speaking countries (Germany, Austria) so it's really useful to know at least little bit of this language.
But hey, on the other hand you have big advantage - you speak with language who everybody knows so you can go wherever you want and people will probably understand you.
I use my english often for writing letters or emails but I write with people from Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Spain, Poland, Belarus... We understand each other very well because we have similar level of our english. I mean for them my sentences aren't so funny like for english speaking people :)

^Stupid Imageshack .. That picture has been loading for like 10 minutes and I still can't see anything but the very first few lines of pixels.

One of my friends brought his cameras to practice today to take a few pictures of our place. Here are some of me :

Note that although I'm not good, I am capable of playing the piano/keyboard. Howver, the most I can do with a violin is make it squeal horribly which when it's jacked up can be quite excruciating. :p:

Ha! It took me a minute to get that. I should have, but I didn't. My friend ended up being Powdered Toast Man from Ren & Stimpy, though and that worked out brilliantly.

Thanks! I naturally goof up in the presence of cameras as a sort of self-defence. I think that may be what caused it. ;)

You play the VIOLIN!? Well, this makes you one hot man, Tore, even though you were before anyway...and even if the only sound you produce is an excruciating, horrible squeal.

Your Halloween ideas are items that only you have the awesome capacity to pull off. I remember an older picture has you as a thing of grapes, and now an egg. Funny, original, and overall awesome :D
