No they're great. If you hike them up so that they're equal in distance between the nipple line and the belly button line, they really work well with body curvature, particularly beer guts.
On women, it really helps to hide the fupa too.

I can't even go belt-less with jeans that are too tight for me. Somehow they always creep down. I think it has to do with the shape of the butt. Maybe he's workin' with some badunk back there.

Same here. My pants ride down even when I have a belt. I'd pretty much have to hurt myself just to have pants that stayed put.
