Nah we don't have Walmart but I think it's quite similar to our Asda's and Morrisons which are both supermarkets .

The asda where I stay has an upstairs with a balcony and I love standing on the balcony just watching people do their shopping. I even like sitting on benches on Glasgows busiest street just to have a look at some of the weird and wonderful people of Glasgow.

That's like an adrenaline junkie version of the sport, you go into it knowing all the risks but love every minute of it.

I'm happy that you call him Wally, not Waldo! Seriously, it's like the whole "Sorcerer's Stone" thing...

I am an elusive being.

Haha, I never understood why American publishers changed "Philosopher's Stone" to "Sorcerer's Stone". It sounds so dumb.

It doesn't sound dumb to those of us who grew up with it.

Well it's not actually dumb but it doesn't really make sense. Why would they do that? What was wrong with the original title?

The same reason they would abstain from publishing the 21st chapter of A Clockwork Orange in America, whereas the book is left in tact elsewhere in the world. For whatever reason they thought it would sell better. Marketing, man. It's fucked.

It doesn't sound dumb but it is dumb. Why not keep the actual title that the author called it? The whole marketing behind it doesn't make sense. Did they think American's are too silly to understand what a "Philosopher" is or something?! Is that word not used in the US? Like, what the.

They also changed a lot of vocab in the books when publishing them in America. Am glad I get to have all of the original versions with JK's original language in them!

Same with Where's Wally. Why change it to Waldo? Is Wally not a valid name in America?

It has something to do with the book being aimed toward children - they thought American children would be more likely to pick up a book with "Sorcerer" in the title as opposed to "Philosopher." I think it's dumb too, but having an amount of familiarity with the book industry -and Scholastic in particular - it does make some amount of sense.
