No idea, I'm pretty clueless in terms of that area of the world! Though I do know that our dollar is pretty much at parity with the US/Canadian at the moment so I really should get my ass over there!

So how does this work. Do you just celebrate christmas in midsummer, or do you call the hot part of the year winter and the cold part summer?
(never really thought about this...)

Haha what... we celebrate Christmas in summer, as does the rest of the southern hemisphere. We still call winter 'Winter' and summer 'Summer' but they occur at opposite times of the year for us.

This practice boggles my mind. I have family in Florida and they aren't depressed about palm trees on christmas. I would refuse to celebrate if it were 90 degrees.

I should have figured that out before.
Really never thought about it.

Still, Australia is probably the only country of the southern hemisphere that appeals to me. I can't really tell you why. I usually prefer the countries up north

Yeah, I guess it's weird, it's usually about 100 degrees F during Christmas time, but that's normal for us, we have our 'summer vacation' over Christmas and New Year's time and then the school year starts again in February. It kinda makes sense to us, but I can see how it would be weird. But everything traditional about Christmas reflects winter time and snow, such as decorations and the portrayal of Christmas in the media etc. So I guess that's why I'd rather have a wintry Christmas. Not a stupid stinking hot one.

Why's that? You like cooler weather? If so, you'd love the South Island of New Zealand It kicks Australia's ass.

I like cooler weather, I love snow and ice and I love the sound of most scandinavian languages.

Reasons not to go to australia and such: I don't like insects and spiders and it seems to me (judging by television ,again) there's quite a lot of those overthere...

Allright, I'll have to remember that.

No harm in dreaming.
