He's a rescue rat from a home where he'd been neglected. I was worried he was gonna die on the way to our apartment after I picked him up, but it went fine and now he's a nice little chubby pet

Possibly, but I can't say for sure until I've looked up the meaning of the words "reticent" and "remiss"
