I thought you were at an alternative address?

There's a few northerners here. We really should organise something.

Yeah, since I messed up your city, I feel it's almost like an obligation.

My family lives in Norfolk, so I spend the holidays with them. Most of the time I'm in Bolton though.

Silly Americans and their calling things by a broad, understood term...
Back to the earlier turban wars:

Freebase Dali is correct that the word "turban" is "a common umbrella term, loosely used in English to refer to several sorts of headwear," according to Wikipedia.

Quote:
Wikipedia continues:
"The men of many Islamic cultures have worn or wear a headdress of some sort that may be considered a turban. Many types of head wrap are worn by Islamic scholars in many Muslim countries. In modern Persian Gulf countries, the head wrap has been replaced by the plain or checkered scarf (called keffiyeh, ghutrah or shumagh), though the Arabic Amamah tradition is still strong in Oman. Afghan men wear a variety of turbans, known as lungee. Lungee is also worn in the north west of Pakistan, especially in the tribal areas. The lungee is usually worn in tribal meetings, but a majority of Afghans prefer to wear it in everyday life."
Now, I myself in wintertime wear a variation of the head scarf turban, similar to those worn by desert people. Back in the 1980s in Germany I purchased two head scarfs (soft circular cloths, like a winter scarf with the ends sewn together) because they were so practical for staying warm in cold weather. Place one end of the scarf over your head, twist and wrap the remainder around the neck, and..ta da!...you have a very toasty scarf/hat combo that completely covers your head and that pesky open neck space between a typical hat and scarf! When it gets really cold, I wrap the headwrap around my head twice, and use part of it to snugly cover up my nose and mouth, so all you can see are my eyes. That's me in the middle picture. The photo on the right provides proof that I actually DO have hair all over my head (sorry, boo boo!).

(In response to the next post): Sweet, sweet, Sugar! (Happy sigh!)
