Default PavementRunner's Introduction

Hi all. My name is John and I'm a 42-year-old stay-at-home dad from Safety Harbor, FL. If it's not obvious, I like Pavement (although they aren't my favorite band) and am an avid runner. I joined this forum after several Google searches on various bands brought me here (I was looking for some good trip-hop). I wandered into the Journals forum and have pretty much been there the better part of the past few days. Some great writing there. I hope to contribute some of my own stuff soon. I'm kind of sick of Facebook groups, etc. and this community looks vibrant and I've always like forums, even if they are old school. So....here I am.

I have kind of been stuck in a musical rut for the better part of 10 years. I used to work at a live music venue and was really involved in the music scene in Chicago in the 90's and early 00's, but after moving to Florida and starting a family, my tastes just kind of stopped evolving. I've been listening to the same albums and bands and kind of "playing it safe" with music and quite frankly I'm bored with it. So I'm making a concerted effort to listen to new bands and to revisit stuff I abandoned years ago for whatever reason. I've made it a point to listen to three or four albums a week and I"m at the point now where I want to start musical documenting my journey. So, sometime in the near future I'll be looking to start a journal.

I'm primarily into Alternative/Indie and there is TONS of stuff I want to listen to in those genres, but I also enjoy pop, R&B, prog rock, metal, folk and even jazz. So I'm open to anything and hope to foster relationships here and hopefully get some recommendations after people get to know me.

In the meantime, I'll be around and probably hanging out in the Indie/Alternative, Album Review and Journal forums. See ya around.

Chicago has one of the best punk scenes on Earth. Love the music scene there. Gainesville is great too, I really wanna go to The Fest at some point.

Anyways, welcome! I love most of those genres.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I'm a couple of hours away from Gainesville, but I know quite a few people who drive up there every year. I hear it's a PARTY. Lol
