An Introduction
Hello Music Banter,
I am The Identity Matrix, and I have been reading these forums for the past 3 weeks combing through all of the threads about the music I like. I have now decided that I want to be a part of this community. I do not have a ton of friends who listen to all the same types of music that I enjoy. So I thought this would be a fun and exciting place to discuss the music I enjoy. I suppose some may be interested to know the kind of music I like. Thus I present a small list of the genres I listen to frequently... Classic Rock, Progressive Rock/Metal, Thrash Metal, Alternative Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Classical, Indie Pop/Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, and many more. I am the only person I know who tends to put Exodus in the same playlist as Barry Manilow if that makes sense. Thanks if you are reading this and I hope to discuss music soon. Sincerely, The Identity Matrix |

Greetings, slightly creepy newbie!
Much like real life, nobody here will like "all the same types of music you do," either... however, unlike real life, your propensity to behave like a douchebag is directly proportionate to your ability to assimilate into our dirty lil commune here... That said, I have faith in you. |

Also I definitely am aware of the fact that not everyone will like the same types of music I do. My comment was meant to get across that I don't have an outlet to discuss all the types of music I like. Sorry for coming off as slightly creepy. |

"Assimilation" isn't nearly as important as survival here. It's like a virtual safari... Show any signs of weakness, and the hyenas will devour you. Show any signs of strength, and the lions will attack. And finally, when you find yourself motionless, in a putrid bed of your own blood and bowels, rest assured that none of these animals will be coming to your rescue. Oh yeah, and don't post any self-promotion spam unless you want a one way ticket to getthe****outtahere. All that to say, welcome to the jungle, darlin'! Muah! |

Basically, like most other internet forums, some of the people who have been around a long long time can be *******s to the newbies. Keep calm when that occurs, and remember, it's just the internet.

I also didn't know many people in my 3D life who felt as interested in a wider range of music or music-related issues as I was, so this online community has helped fill that gap. About assimilating: I feel there is a niche here for all sorts of people, so anyone who wants to join because of a love for music is sure to find some like-minded people. Since you can pick and choose the people to whom you respond, you can find those with whom you feel comfortable and shape your experience of the site. There *are* some members who seem to thrive on putting others down just for the sake of being mean, but they are easy to spot and ignore, if you want to. I feel that most people at MB are genuinely welcoming and are here because of a love of music and the appreciation of others who feel the same. I've met some of the most supportive, thoughtful, well-intentioned people in my life here. I hope you will feel comfortable here and will enjoy the site!
