it's psychological condition they have called COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.

What they read they cannot argue with but at the same time they cannot accept it because it disturbs their Fluffy Pink bunny Rabbit world and so they deny it. One of the first symptoms is to throw ridicule at the messenger, it makes them believe they are making argument whilst at the same time attempting to make the nasty information go away.

Orwell wrote about this in 1984 where Winston Smith is fighting against a brainwashed population. He called it Doublethink.

When I first heard the term Truther I immediately knew that Orwell was a genius. Classic Newspeak.
