Also, this is purely a place for discussion, and there are strict rules against posting ads or promoting music. It's fine that you make music and are proud of it, just don't throw it at us, because we daily get bombarded with people who spam the forums with links to their music and it's very annoying.

So... got any favorite bands or musicians? What about genres? How do you feel about Garage Rock?
Thanks very much for the warm welcome, I was beginning to think I was alone in here!

Ok I can understand that you dont want to have to wade through 1000s of posts about songs just to find the fun discussions, that makes sense.

I admit I am not much of a fan of music, especially not over the last few years, I barely ever listen to other ppls songs and if I do I'm generally jammin them at a gig and so they are kinda my own.
But I like music, all music.
Started being a big fan when I was very young of classical and I have touched on most styles in my life.
I like some very hard rock, I also particularly like it when rock gets a bit jazzy.
I admit there is very little pop I like, and a lot of my favs are rock.

and thank you overkast and plankton for your welcomes too
I am feeling very welcome.

Btw, the reason I didnt reply yesterday, I left here thinking this was somehow a dead forum while still being on the top of my google and got on with my work, then when I checked I saw the posts and started making this reply, then when I finished typing it we had another power cut here in south africa (FKN EsKON) and didnt get to post it.

You're welcome for the welcome! I'm sorry to hear that you don't like to listen to too much music nowadays. Were there any bands that you really liked when you were younger?

Also, how do you feel about these?

I'll check those out on monday, only get on the net at work, but I should be able to give them a listen.

hmmm... what did I used to like um.
when I was really young, didnt really get to choose the music I listened to because it was whatever my parents (and even then mostly what my dad wanted) played, we listened to lots of carman, kliff richard, beatles, simon & garfuncle (how do you spell that O_o) & cat stevens.
of those I am still a supporter of the simon and garfunkle (O_x) harmonies, absolute heaven, especially when you can sing them yourself with someone else - feels so good, cat stevens was an amasing writer and I still love most of his OLD songs, the new stuff, I havent even given a chance, and the beatles who had a way with making songs popular, I try to learn from their success.
Eventually I went though an xtian stage and enjoyed some music I would rather not mention, but I will anyways.
MiC - they were fun when they were still the first 4 guys and were more underground and then they went full religitard.
Jars of Clay - Still love their music to this day, but I dont ever listen too it, I dont need to played them often enough that I could re-create them note for note.
OTHERS - matt redman, dilerious (never hillsongs though)
Then there was a big breaking up of the church and I left xtianity all together, went down the clubbing road, took a lot of pills and got addicted to house & trance (armin van buurin, tiesto etc). Then I began studying to be a graphic designer and got into hard rock, I wish I had paid attention to nirvana when it was going on, but I was only 12 when he died, and I can guarantee my parents decided it was satanic. But I love Kurt today, I love Snot (I actually listen to these guys whenever I just need that feeling).
umm... is that enough info X_X

And after typing it I know these are the groups that I listened to the most, but I have been into almost everything out there at one stage or another.
