Sounds like you'd probably like Combustible Edison. This track's instrumental but they have a female vocalist as well.



It doesn't have any strings in it (unless you count the guitar and bass), but here's some cool atmospheric noir jazz stuff called Heroin and Your Veins you might enjoy. It was the first thing that came to mind when I was reading your description before checking out the track.
