I'm 35... so I grew up with grunge. I like rock of all types (particularly Southern rock) and some classical.

I was never really a fan of grunge but I love Smashing Pumpkins' second CD and they kinda came from that era. They were more shoegaze / heavy metal / hard rock though.

I don't know what shoegaze is, heh.

But you're right, Pumpkins weren't exactly grunge.

I was into them at that time. I still love Disarm.

Shoegaze is like layered walls of sounds through guitars and lots of reverb. You know how the Pumpkins went from like... a really hard rock and roll sound to that more ethereal reverby layered sound and how his voice went to that more delicate, nasaley sound, like simultaneously just shifting between those sounds. That's why Siamese Dream is so genius. It's just two very distinctive sounds flip flopping.

One of Billy corgan's biggest inspiratoins.

Like Mayonaise (my favorite pumpkins song maybe) is very shoegaze / dream poppy.

Grunge = Howling guitar feedback with scruffy people from Seattle singing about how life sucks and how many drugs they've taken.

Shoegaze = Howling guitar feedback with scruffy people from English Universities singing about how life sucks and how many drugs they've taken.

I think that covers it.
