I'm also not a huge fan of Darkness, though Racing in the Street version was pretty good.
I really enjoyed the Promise a lot more because of Racing in the Street the '78 version, Rendezvous, Talk to Me, Ain't Good Enough for You...
Anyway, welcome. Springsteen is not very popular among people on this forum for reasons I don't understand, so don't be surprised if no one finds your music interests respectable.

I do like The Promise as well - it and any of his first six are all-time classics IMO. But I think the only album that could compete with Darkness is Nebraska and maybe Born to Run. I think it (Darkness) takes the best elements of Born to Run while tempering the bombast a little - that said, there's no single song on Darkness as good as "Thunder Road".
