Blimey Dezzy, your'e gonna have to rename this thread 'Crinkly Corner' or somethin'. Good introduction to Northern Soul, there's a double cd that Virgin do with some big Northern anthems called 'Northern Soul - All Nighter', get it just about anywhere (HMV). There's a superb record shop in Town called Beatin' Rythme, on Tibb Street, sells full range of soul/R&B/Funk, it's a great place just to look around in, specialises in rare vinyl, well worth a visit.
Northern Soul tracks that have been covered are; Sliced Tomatoes - Just Brothers (instrumental) covered by Fat Boy Slim - Funk Soul Brother (think thats what he called it). Tainted Love - Gloria Jones, What - Judy Street, both covered (and slaughtered) by Marc Almond of Soft Cell. Marilyn Manson also covered Tainted Love, which I strangely like! Incidentally Gloria Jones was married to Marc Bolan, she was at the wheel when the car hit the tree.( Jesus I could bore people to death with Northern Soul) Might start a Northern Soul thread and bore the entire forum Surely you must have heard of Wigan Casino's allnighters in the 70,s? Did you see any good punk bands in your puberty? |

Hi Right Track, I know the shop well you mention on Tib St. Must have been past 1000s of times. Can't remember ever venturing in. Will seek out your recommendations.
I spend a lot of time, when time is on my side sifting through vinyl and CDs in the Aladdins caves, also known as charity shops. I pick up something special and my cash goes to charity. Everyones a winner. Nice to read your last thread. I've been away recently for a week or so, doing the cliff richard thing, without the london red bus. (apologies for being cryptic, I'm currently in that zone) . I couldn't fathom your last post(above). I'ts probabally crystal but as said I'm in that zone. |
