When it comes to introducing yourself, which we are obligated to do during all sorts of strange circumstances, I rarely know what to say. I mean, how do you summarize yourself in that short amount of time. We're talking seconds when it's casual, a minute or so infront of a group and a painful amount of time when meeting your girl- or boyfriend's parents, and when you first meet that guitar you've been eyeing it'll take a lifetime.

The first time I played a guitar I was eleven years old. A friend of mine taught me the first notes to Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water". Now at 33, I play the guitar almost every day and still don't know how to introduce myself, but I'll give it an honest try.

I'll listen to anything that moves me. So, to give you an idea of what I mean and hopefully what sort of person I am, here's an explanation: Lascia ch'io pianga (G.F. Händel), They Can't Take that away from Me (B. Holiday 1957 studio version), Take a Load off Annie (The Band), Death of a Clown (The Kinks), Runaround Sue (Dion and the Belmonts), Mr. Jones (Counting Crows), The Wicker Man (Iron Maiden), Caribou Lou (Tech n9ne), The Only (Static X), Night of the Vampire (Entombed), Monster Mash (Bobby Pickett), Chick Habit (April March, France Gall's French 1964 verision good too), 12 steps (USCB allstars), Santeria (Sublime), Pretext (Raised Fist), Wake Up (From Mass Effect 3), Depech Mode's and Daft Punk's earlier work, The Minibosses... and I realize that I could keep going like this for a very long time.

However, I've recently noticed that I tend to follow the seasons (fall, winter etc...) in my musical choices, though this whole season thing has nothing to do with holidays -- religious, commercial or otherwise.

By the way, a few years ago I got some notes on a German study in psychology (it was written in English) showing how x-mas related music can cause aggressive behaviour. Funny, huh?

Well, I guess this gives you a decent idea of me. Might be worth mentioning that I'm Swedish, I work hard and friggin love life. Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from my Friends" paints a good picture of that last comment.

I heard "Runaround Sue" a few weeks back for the first time in years. It blew me away as I've never heard it quite like that time. Also, I'm curious about your seasonal music tastes. I have very strict rules for my own music consumption based of seasons, weather, time of day, etc... For me, Autumn is Wilco, Ray Lamontagne, Teitur, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, and a handful of others. Some of my albums are seasonal as well. Funny stuff. Welcome to the forums. We have a hockey thread too, my Swedish friend.

Yup, D and the Belmonts sure knew what they were doing. As for seasonal tastes, I'd have to say that it connects to a lot of things besides the seasons, though I rarely stray far from that certain mood you'd get from any season. A cold, snowy Winter day, for example, I'd probably listen to something like the Decemberists' "Crane Wife" or "Shankhill Butchers" and slide over to something more electronic as it gets darker. Long notes reminding you of space and the silencing blanket that is snow would be a key component in any dark Winter night of mine. Fall, as is the case at the moment, I tend to fill with classical music. I'm listening to Erik Satie's "Gymnopédie" at the moment, which is a bit typical, I suppose. I also listen to a lot of Jazz for these two seasons. I suppose I haven't really looked at and attempted to expressed my whole year in terms of musical preferences before, but it's becoming more evident that music gradually slows down for me over Fall and Winter and vice versa as it gets warmer.

I only recognized Nick Drake amongst the names you mentioned, but I will definately listen through the other ones. I'll get back to you on that, if you're interested. I'll take a look at that hockey thread too, and thanks for the welcome.
