Hi :)

Hi everyone.

Just signed up for this forum now & hope it is going to become a site I use a lot.

Firstly, I'll tell you a little bit about me. I'm 24, female and live in Yorkshire. I work in healthcare and hopefully will be returning to uni soon in order to get a better job. I like a variety of different styles of music, mainly indie bandy sort of things but I will give anything a shot. My main bands, artists etc that I am listening to at the moment are Stereophonics, Noel Gallagher, Jake Bugg. There are more but I am tired (it is 4am) and I have a bit of a mins blank.

I am wanting to find new songs, artists etc as I don't feel like I branch out too much. I an open to any recommendations.

I'll try and use this aa much as possible, by giving my thoughts on things :)

Any questions anyone has feel free to ask.

D x

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have 2 questions for you.

1. Have you heard Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds? I ****ing love that album. If I had a gun is an amazing song.

2. Why do you guys call all college Uni? Here in America University is only used for state run schools, while private ones are typically called something else. Is it just a blanket term for high education?

Hi Dr. Rez, thanks for the reply.
1. Yes I love that album! If I had a gun is amazing but I generally love the whole album. Have you listened to much of his live stuff, his acoustic versions of Oasis song, and the smiths?

2. That's just what they are called here :) we have general school what everyone goes to until you're 16, then if you want college, usually for 2 years, then university.

Wait so college is different than Uni for you? How does it all work, sounds totally different than M'urica.

I don't have a clue about the education system over there but here we have to go to school until we are 16. Then if you want to go into further education you go to college which is usually for 2 years and you pick whatever subjects you want, 3-4 usually. Then after you have finished college you apply to uni and go wherever you want to go.

Wow I am bad at explaining things haha!!

How long is uni? Do you have the equivalent of a Masters/Graduate Degree?

In America we have Kindergarten, then grades 1-12. Like there you only legally have to stay until you are 16.

College/University (same thing here) is another 4 years after grade 12, so essentially like grades 13-16. If you want you can then get a graduate degree which is even more schooling.

They're two different things here too. Colleges here offer 2 year diploma programs and certificates, etc so that would be like community college in the US. University here is just any school that is able to grant degrees, usually 4 year programs.

Uni do degrees etc. Like I have a BSc degree. Doing a masters soon *fingers crossed*. I'll try to explain myself properly tomorrow once I have gone to sleep ;)
College is generally 2 years and uni is 3-4 usually with a degree. Haha. I am really finding it hard to explain haha

Dr_Rez 03-20-2013 10:59 PM

Ah ok now I understand. I attended a community college so I get the sentiment. Thanks for explaining!
