Help me with my musical tastes!

I NEED YOUR HELP! Yes you, maybe not you but at least one of you. I am in a box of music and I can't get out, I have a wide range of musical tastes but at the moment I just can't find anything that really hits me.

At the moment I am listening to softer stuff, eg: The Ting Tings, Sia Furler, Tides Of Man.

But for more of an example I listen to: Bonnie Tyler, Buffalo Springfield, Chunk! No Captain Chunk!, City & Colour, The Color Morale, Dorothy Moore. Enter Shikari, Gorillaz, I The Mighty, Memphis May Fire, Miles Davis, Mindless self indulgence. Northlane, Phinehas, Primus, Sylosis, Thelonious Monk, TISM, Trace Bundy, ect, ect.

Look to be honest, I am open to suggestions I just need music.

Thanks. <3

Depends on what genres you want to explore, or if there's any restriction there. Jazz? Progressive rock? Metal? Punk? Emo? New Wave? Classical? Blues? There are literally so many genres and within those sub-genres out there that people here could recommend you anything, but it's better to know where your tastes lie, or where you wish to go.

For keyboard-centric music with deep lyrics and usually quite long songs, a lot of demonstration of technical and musical skill, prog rock is a good place to start (Genesis, Marillion, Rush, ELP, Yes, Spock's Beard, IQ and so on). For upbeat dance music, it could be electronica, new wave etc (not that familiar with that sort of music but someone here will be). Metal of course is more powerful, heavy, often angry music that makes your heart start pumping and may have you eyeing leather metal-studded wristbands and think of growing your hair (if you can) --- Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, Scorpions, Metallica, all that lot.

I guess it depends on what sort of area you want to explore, so maybe you could let us know if you have looked at any other genres, or what ones you would be interested in? Perhaps also check out the "recommendations" threads on metal, prog rock and so on in the forum; you may get some good ideas there. And join some threads which are discussing music you might be interested in. Talk to people, see where you want to go.

There's no point in my posting videos because you may already know (and hate) these artistes, but if you'd like an idea of prog rock or metal let me know. Or indeed, classical.

TH

How about some Contemporary Noise Quintet, one of the best modern jazz bands I've heard lately:

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip man! I am looking for deeper music not so much tech wise but simple and effective. So I am looking more at 'Soul' and probably 'Pop' that's where the whole "Sia" thing comes from she's amazing I am just trying to find more artists that are like her shes very talented.

But I guess really I am open for any suggestions, I gave a list of a few of the bands on my ipod so people could understand what I listen to and hopefully let me know of a band that is quite like the ones I've posted, or maybe the completely different. (:

Welll... how about some Steve Earle? When you say simple and effective, that could equate to acoustic? Try these:

Franco Pepe Kalle 08-25-2012 02:05 PM

NEEDINMUSIC. So you want to some soul music. Well viola, you found the person here. Here is me. Although a Franco and Pepe Kalle fanatic, I found some soul music that is unique.
