incidently, on the second picture ( birds eye view ) you can see the core of the old city is square shaped, it's the remnants of the palace built by the roman emperor Diocletian, it's well preserved, the cathedral is actualy his mausoleum....the oldest cathedral in europe...over 1700 years old...

me and me sis went shopping in this wee town this past saturday, i had my uber wicked mobile so i thought i'd take and post some pictures of this ( at times ) beautiful city - Zadar ( in italian - Zarra ). i was born here, but merely because there were no hospitals on my island.

this is the south entrance to the city ( it's a very old city as you can see, sorrounded by *insert word for big walls that protect cities from invaders*

the streets are very narrow ( it's how we do it in the Mediterranian ), yet even in such small spaces people find space to put some tables for drinking coffe and such ( again, this is how we do it in the Mediterranian, we like to sit arround and do nothing )

ok, a better idea, i got a few maps and an exellent web site from the Croatian Tourist Board: www.croatia.hr ....just type the places i mention in the search engine and it gives you all the pictures, accomodation, restaurants and other tourist neccesities....even short films.

first map: the peninsula of Istra; definitely the most rewarding place to visit as far as one day trips are concerned. Must see places: Poreč ( if you can't see the last letter, it's Porech, you can try Porec maybe ), Rovinj, Pula, Motovun, Opatija ( this town is very nice, Austro Hungarian architecture, been a tourist desitnation for over 2 centuries, lots of old hotels, parks, villas, a very nice place to have a cup of coffe on a sunny sunday afternoon, about 20 miles from where i am right now )....all very clean, tourist orianted towns. Istra is the leading region in Croatia as far as tourism is concerned. Very reminiscent of the middle of Italy, hills, small villages on top of them, similar architecture.
Also, check out the islands: Cres, Krk, Rab, Lošinj ( Loshinj or Losinj for the search engine...or just copy paste what i wrote)

This is a map of the north of Dalmatia. Must see places: Zadar, Šibenik ( Shibenik ), national park - Kornati, national park - Krka

and finally, the most beautiful part of Croatia, South Dalmatia.
Must see places: Split, Trogir, Bol ( on the island of Brač ), Hvar and Starigrad ( on the island of Hvar ), Vis and Komiža ( on the island of Vis, although you won't have the time to visit seeing as how the ferry ride to this island is a couple of hours long, still ,check it out on the web site, they're amazing villages ), Vela Luka, Blato and Korčula (on the island of Korčula)...and of course the much publicised Dubrovnik, Cavtat and Ston in the far south.

hope this is of some help

It is beautiful! Here's a couple of PI. First one's Saint James City, where I'm at. Second is Bokeelia, the other end of the island.

I'll toss up sommore later.
