Hello there! New and looking for some advice

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum and was hoping I could get some advice on how to get started as a musician and/or find bandmates.

I play acoustic guitar (still learning) and sing. I write and record my own songs, have my own facebook artist page, and have given a few CDS with my songs to friends. I am unsure of what to do next. I would love to play live, but don't have the slightest idea how to do it. I also want to find other musicians to play with and form a band, but have no idea how to find them! I don't have a lot of musician friends, so I'm stumped!

Thanks!

I would say don't be shy about asking bars, cafes, galleries, etc. if they might be interested in having you play there. Be persistent in asking around, eventually someone will bite. If you live in the Boston area, there are tons of places in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, etc. where you might be able to play. If you're out in western Mass. trying checking out places in towns like Northampton, Barrington, Lenox, etc.

You might also want to look into open-mic nights as a way to start out and help you get comfortable performing in front of people.

Thanks so much for the advice! I live closer to Boston, so I'll start around there.
