If you wish to post your a selection of songs from your favourite artists you would like us to hear, such as your top ten Bob Dylan tracks, we'd all love to hear it. But it's not fair to come here for the purposes of self promotion in order to get your band more widely heard. That counts as spam, and spam is lame.

If you stay around to be a part of the community so that we can get to know you a bit, we'd absolutely love to hear it. But since we don't know anything about you at all, then we can't really relate to it personally, if you get me.

To put it a different way, the reason we even have a 15 post minimum before you can post a link is so we can see what people's intentions are before they go slinging their wares all over the forum. The amount of people or bots who visit this site with the intention of using it as free advertising--regardless of whether or not the seek to make a monetary profit from it, is HUGE! We want the people who are members here with the intention of being active contributors and focused on the discussion of the music they love (or hate) to listen to, not the music they've made.

Sigh. I came across this years ago, when I was a fresh-faced young naive member just joining, and wanted to get people to play my music quiz. Same basic idea, self-promotion, even though none of the music was mine.
I got drawn in when (sorry if this embarrasses anyone but it's true) I saw the level of committment to, knowledge of and general interest in music here. People here TALK about music, discuss it, not just slag each other off as happens on so many music and other forums (though a bit of slagging does go on of course, but to quote the late Kenny Everett, it's all in the best possible taste!) and so REAL discussions get started, and continue, and you can contribute to this any time you want to. If you have something to say, try by either joining a thread with a legitimate discussion (and please, don't go into a thread about for instance rap and say this music sucks, or whatever: that's not constructive and your post will get ignored and/or deleted, and if you keep that sort of behaviour up sooner or later you'll be banned), or if you're really anxious to talk about your favourite music --- and I think it's been made clear here that does not refer to music made by you --- start a Members Journal. It's been one of the most enjoyable, productive and rewarding experiences I've had in the last few years. So, hikitty: if you post to a legitimate YouTube that is NOT your music or your best friend/cousin/father/boyfriend's music, and have the requisite number of opening posts, no, it won't be deleted. Of course, if your boyfriend whatever happens to be Dave Gilmour or someone then by all means post! Drogo: I think Satchmo already answered that question. If not then I hope I've managed to clarify it for you. This is not a spam or self-promotion forum, and in order to be seen as a "serious" member, you need to post 15 times, and that does NOT mean 15 posts saying hi or yes or whatever. Guys, find a discussion you like (there are so many here, you're bound to find something that interests you) and get involved. That's how to show us you're here for more than just posting links. Look around, introduce yourselves, let us know what music you like, get a few replies going... who knows where it could lead to?
