It sounds like you're on track to be really into power metal.

Edit: I'm at a loss for words as to what you're looking for because you like bands with flat unemotional vocals, even though you say you don't like them.

def don't like screaming very few songs where it feels as though it's appropriate like the artist builds up to the feeling and has a reason to scream

lol, as for flat vocals these are just bands that i've found so if they are flat then i'm excited at what I might find because they don't do it for me

I am anything but a music critic so even explaining this is a stretch but you all are being extremey helpful! I'm excited and enjoying all the suggestions. One thing to clarify the fast guitar changes are good but I like the tempo, i beleive is the right word, being faster rather than just one instrument. I like more 'active' music i'm a very relaxed person with an over active mind, lol. I also like music with more bass.

This is all based on some youtube sampling.

Atomship - very cool will listen to more really liked the big changes during songs. The music was def dynamic enough so i didn't get bored but too slow not 'peppy' enough
Alterbridge - what creed should have been lol but too slow and kind of soft
Sevendust - i liked the song face to face, but the rest bored me sounds a lot like many other bands. I liked the extra bass in their songs but not very dynamic and screaming although mild was still forced and not poetic.
Killswitch Engage, Adema, Static X - don't like screaming
Autopilot Off - :) good stuff, good suggestion! will listen to more, but looking for something slightly more on the rock side
Rise Against - yes but not quite and i can't put my finger on why
Escape the Fate - yes but again with the screaming...

P.S. My favorite band is Relient K but am no longer a christian and my personality is much more violent and aggressive. The light hearted theme rarely fits my mood. But i have yet to find a band who i enjoy the lyrics as much, very creative and poetic.

There's a chance you could like System of a Down, particularly their albums "Steal This Album", "Hypnotize", and "Mezmerize". In comparison to their earlier stuff, there's a minimum of screaming, and they're very interesting - lyrically and musically.

If you're okay with Tool, maybe A Perfect Circle would be more your speed. It's also fronted by Maynard James Keenan, so you may dig it.

Also, you seem to already enjoy a lot of bands my sister does. While I'm not huge on any of the following bands, she likes them, and you may too:

Taking Back Sunday
The Spill Canvas
Something Corporate
Jack's Mannequin
Dasboard Confessional
Bright Eyes
Panic! At the Disco
Plain White T's
The Apex Theory
Ra
Die Trying
Taproot
Trust Company
Puddle of Mudd
Christie Front Drive
The Promise Ring
Hellogoodbye

:ope that could help!

tool, perfect circle and system of a down don't quite cut it for me but the last year i've been listening to all but two or three of those bands your sister likes lol that list came right out of my music player. That's my struggle I'm trying to find a crossover between the two styles.

I looked up power metal (not knowing what it was) and yeah i tried listening to dragon force a few years back but a little too over powering for me. Kamelot is intriguing, just listened to them for the first time. The genre in general is great but i don't like the classic rock sound of many of the bands.

Avenged Sevenfold? The Used? Thursday?

Er, maybe post-hardcore? Try Brand New's album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Or anything by Thrice after Vheissu. Or, uh, Mewithoutyou.

Possibly nu-metal too. Like Static-X, Skindred, Dredg?

Tool and System of A Down not doing it for you? What the hell man?!

How about some clean vocal Opeth?

Or some Alice In Chains

You sure you don't like Tool? (Video shows wrong album, how silly of them)

and lastly, Dragonforce is a disgrace to power metal.

the used - love it! looking for something harder though
avenged sevenfold - screaming...
thursday - weird, very boyish weak voice for main vocal then screaming.. don't like it
brand new - great but something a faster and harder

mewithoutyou - weird no
skindred - never realized who they were, had a soundtrack on a need for speed game :) not crazy about the lead singer but it's pretty good
dredg - way too soft and way to slow but good music

thanks for all the variety!

I would take a listen to Breaking Benjamin's "Saturate" and maybe Skillet's "Awake" albums and see if they can help to steer you in any particular direction.

Alterbridge which is actually creed but without the awful singing from Scott Stape

I am a fan of Scott Stapp's vocals.

Really? they annoy the crap out of me.

The whole marbles in the mouth singing never appealed to me.

Yes, Breaking Benjamin is a good suggestion, Cold, Crossfade and Evan's Blue you may also want to try.

I would suggest Freak Kitchen, Dream Theater, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Additionally, I suggest Primus, Bumblefoot, and Infectious Grooves.

I'm playing off your desire for excellent bass.

If you are at all happy, I'll provide more suggestions. If not, I'll try to refine my suggestions and try something else.

Let me know, cheers.

Try Misfits. I know a lot of people who listen to different stuff who like the Misfits, Ramones are good too.
