Well... Hi! :D

Just thought it would be prudent to say hello. :P

Well, I'm Brent, from Newfoundland, Canada. I really like Joanna Newsom, Bjork and CocoRosie, and love songs that evoke emotion, whether it be a prickling of fear, a twinge of guilt, a pang of sadness or loneliness... music has to have something special for me to truly become a fan of it.

I'm also pretty big on poetry, and lyrics are important to me. I've messed around a bit with writing my own, though I think I'll get into it a bit more now that I've got you all to share it with!

Anyways... yeah. Just saying hi.

Brent

Hello Brent. I like the way you've presented yourself, and your selection of female artists is quality. Who else do you enjoy?

Brent 04-27-2011 10:43 PM

Thanks, I think. :)

For other artists, it's a bit of a hit and miss really. I find that I only truly like a few songs from several people including Alela Diane, Emilie Simon, Mum (I apologize for not using proper accents), Moa, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, Fleet Foxes and (a very small selection of music from) Robyn. Ane Brun is growing on me too.

I can listen to and, for want of a better word, enjoy most any music, though.

Cool, you're from Newfoundland! I've never been out there myself but I have a couple of friends at Memorial University in St. John's.

We have a dedicated forum for song lyrics and poetry, so feel free to start your own thread there and get some feedback on what you've written!

Welcome to MB :)

Paedantic Basterd 04-27-2011 10:46 PM

I won't hold it against you. I can't be bothered either.

It's good to be open minded. We are certainly the place for it!

Thom Yorke 04-27-2011 10:46 PM

Welcome to MB! Bjork's awesome. And it's always good to have another Canadian around here, even if you are from Newfoundland. ;)

Brent 04-27-2011 10:51 PM

Haha, thanks guys. I might try my hand at a few drafts tomorrow, if I can think up a good enough topic overnight. I've had "writer's block" for a while now...

I definitely agree with you there- Bjork's one of the best. :]

Oh, and for you haters out there, Newfoundland's a really nice place (albeit the most secluded dump ever)! ;)

Welcome Brent. xo

Hi Brent, I have to say that except for a bit of Björk I can't say we share a lot, musically speaking.
But that's how you make an introduction. Very solid!
Welcome! :)

Hey welcome Brent. I see you are a fan of female vocalists and lyrics! I am with you, check out Mazzy Star, Patti Smith and Jefferson Airplane, if you havent of course!

Brent 04-28-2011 10:33 AM

Thanks again guys. :)

I think everyone likes Bjork to some extent. Hehe.

And I'm definitely a fan of female vocalists and lyrics! The three you listed aren't entirely my style though. I think (and I don't mean this in a bad way) I might show Mazzy Star to my mom though. She's into that sort of music. Patti Smith really didn't do anything for me at all, but I liked Jefferson Airplane a little. Thanks for the suggestions nonetheless. :D

Oh, by the way, I also listen to some songs by Morcheeba. Forgot to mention her earlier. :>

 I was just kidding. I'm sure it is. I've been to most provinces out east, but not Newfoundland yet.

Burning Down 04-28-2011 01:37 PM

I've never been further east in this country than Quebec City.

Thom Yorke 04-28-2011 01:57 PM

Montreal and Quebec City are probably my favourite cities. PEI's probably my favourite province out east though. I stayed in a lighthouse on the southeastern tip of the island for about a week. So nice.

Burning Down 04-28-2011 01:59 PM

Montreal is a great city, my mom is from there so I've been there many times.

Almost everyone I know ****ing hates Björk.
I think there's something very interesting about the person and her music.

Burning Down 04-28-2011 04:56 PM

She wore a swan dress to the Oscars one year...
