Hello

Greetings, I hope to enjoy my stay here. I am from Ireland.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-29-2011 08:34 AM

Hey hey, like your Tom Waits avatar. I take it you like him? What are your favorite albums?

PoorOldPo 01-29-2011 08:46 AM

Thanks for the welcome.

My favourite music is quite diverse.

In no particular order:

Tame Impala
Waterboys
Fionn Regan
Pink Floyd
Mozart
O Emperor
Damien Rice
Radiohead
Rory Gallagher
Jeff Buckley
Lisa Hannigan
MGMT
Fleet Foxes
Tom Waits

Those are just some of the stuff I am listening to right now and have been for a while.

PoorOldPo 01-29-2011 08:46 AM

Also, I cannot wait to get the ability to post my art and see what youy guys think.

Hey Po, welcome to musicbanter :)

Are you really poor and old?

PoorOldPo 01-29-2011 11:10 AM

Why the why rather? It seems a little paranoid.

PoorOldPo 01-29-2011 02:24 PM

I guess I was questioning your questions when you asked me was I old and poor.

Guybrush 01-29-2011 04:39 PM

Aside from it being an obvious joke (reference to your username), I was actually wondering who you are. It was a leading question which I was hoping would make you spill the beans some more. The way you've posted so far in this thread makes you seem somewhat hesitant about writing anything about yourself which kinda defeats the point of making an introduction thread in the first place.

So, to answer the why, I'm just curious who you are. You say you're looking forward to posting your art. What sort of art do you do? Music or painting?

Oh well thank you and sorry if I came across as being rude. I am nobody. Just another regular citizen who happens to like music and art.

I play guitar and piano. My favourite colour is light blue. I like watching the Wire. I am a massive fan of The Lord of the Rings. And I am 6'3.

I write music on piano and guitar and I am learning to sing. I like pschedelic music/ folk music and alternative as well as classical. Although I dislike subjugating music into categories.

Sweet. Which of the books have you read? I've read the orginal trilogy obviously, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and the newest one (I forget the title, but it's about Turin). I need to read the rest of the Tales of Middle Earth, but I've been lazy.

PoorOldPo 02-02-2011 05:43 AM

Awesome! I haven't read the hobbit since i was a child and i would love to read silmarillion. For me it was the films and then the books in order of how i went about it.

Poor man's Star Wars.

Bloozcrooz 02-02-2011 06:59 AM

Welcome to the forum. Ireland huh? Like your guys soap...:yikes:

s_k 02-02-2011 07:00 AM

What, Irish soap?
How can you think of Irish soap when there's such a thing as Irish Beer? :D.

Dude, LOTR came first by several decades. Besides the true appreciation comes when you realize just how much Tolkien never published. God only know how much history, epic poetry, notes, etc he wrote seemingly just for his own personal enjoyment. He was a ****ing genius. George Lucas is just a tw@t.

TheCunningStunt 02-02-2011 03:29 PM

You didn't specify whether you were a fan of LOTR books or films.
Probably both. But when it comes to films, Star Wars is so much better than LOTR.
And I like LOTR.

djchameleon 02-02-2011 03:39 PM

Some of the Star wars novels are pretty damn great also. Especially since they don't have much to do with george lucas but I like lucas anyways so that's not a big issue.

PoorOldPo 02-02-2011 03:47 PM

sorry, i like star wars but.... Just no. there is no comparison.

And Irish people have done more than soap!
Guinness is cool though.

It was a joke..im not even sure if Irish Spring soap is Irish or not. Could be an american made soap which gives it even more ironic humor. As far as the beer well...

Emphasis on "some". I've read a lot of them and the majority are just okay. A fair amount of them would have been worth more as just paper and ink. Crystal Star? Darksaber? Utter ****. And they made Luke into a boring, whiny ass philosphical masturbater who's too busy worrying about the dark side to do anything useful. And is it too much to ask to actually have dark jedi or sith in any of the story lines that actually fight jedi? Shooting a dark jedi with a blaster without even so much as a single lightsaber battle is just balls.

that's the path that Luke was heading on. I could see him growing up as a Jedi to become just like that. I personally like Jaina, Jacen and Anakin. The children of Han and leia.

Yeah, it made sense the way he evolved as a character, but that didn't make it any less boring. Mara Jade was too cool a character to be tied down to a dud like Luke.
