Newster

Please allow me to introduce myself! I'm a 28 year old student and musician from Sweden who stumbled over this page in search for the lost chord (or a forum whereupon I could shamelessly promote my own musical yields). It caught my attention though so I'd thought I'd stay for a while and see what happens. When it comes to musical preferences I just love progressive rock and artrock, but also digest metal, indie, psychedelia and, well, simply good music that blows your mind rather than your body. And of course, Beatles will always and ever be no. 1.

And my own music? Well, I can't post links yet so we'll have that later. But I might reveal that I play guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, drums, flute and vocal cords, not necessarily simultaneously, as well as write my own songs. Not much else to say at the moment. We'll see how long I'll last.

//greetings, Fredrik

Hello Dotoar! Welcome!
You don't have to worry about how long you'll last if you follow simple rules concerning advertising and self-promotion. If you haven't you can read forum rules here: http://www.musicbanter.com/announcem...rum-rules.html. If you have the time to look around a bit, you can see that this is a community for music fans to discuss, debate and share their thoughts about music in general, specific bands, genres etc. We have many interesting discussions here and one section of the forum that is especially of high quality: The MB Reader - Music Banter, where members post their reviews, journals, lists etc. So, you can see what kind of forum this is.

Sharing your own music can come later, after you prove yourself to be a contributing member of the forum who's not here just to promote his music. I'm sure you have interesting things to say, so, please stick around.

Yes, I've learned that this isn't quite a musician forum and would like to apologize for trying to promote myself (through my now removed signature). However, the discussions going on are quite involving and I have already found reason to contribute my own thoughts so yes, I will stay a while.

We have a Swede. Jealous of you man :D.
Hope you'll enjoy your stay. Sure you will :)

Dotoar 12-26-2010 05:22 PM

I'm not sure if that's much to be jealous about, but we have... hmm... snow, dysfunctional rail traffic and IKEA. And a quirky language. Gotta account for something. :yeah:

s_k 12-26-2010 05:54 PM

It's the snow. And the Volvo's and Saabs.
Ah, no, Saab is Dutch now. I should be proud about that.
And Ikea, we have those here too. God I hate Ikea.
But still, there's something about Sweden. Don't know what, but I like it somehow.
And I love the language man :)

Welcome to the forum mate from one newbie to another. :)

Dotoar 12-26-2010 07:19 PM

Saab is chinese for what I know, and Volvo still american. But the very invention of the companies is and will always be swedish and they have made a lot of neat models during the years. I myself actually drive an old Saab 96 V4 from 1969, which has no problem starting in -20° C. So yes, our car history I am very proud of actually. :thumb:

And I'm not at all fond of the IKEA stuff although I totally admire the entrepeneurship of its founder, coming up with an idea that would end up a worldwide phenomenom.

But in the end I don't really like the notion of taking pride in my fellow countrymen. I much rather take pride in what I do myself.

Anyway, thanks for your regards!

Saab has become dutch last year ;).
Love the 96. And these old carburettor engines always work :).
Please post a picture :).
We'll be buying a Volvo 340 (tax free next year in the Netherlands) soon.

I don't take pride in mine (or any) country, either. I wouldn't know why, it's just a bit of the Earth. But still I have a thing for Sweden :)

I drive a Volvo! It's about 10 years old and runs perfectly :)

And welcome to MB :)

No, you've got a thing for certain things in Sweden. ;)

The car pic will have to wait a while until I'm allowed to attach links though.

By the way, you know that the Volvo 340 actually is a dutch car, right?

s_k 12-27-2010 04:57 PM

Jup. It's built in Born, which is about 3 miles from here ;).
They built Mitsubishi's after that (I had a carisma that was built there, worst car ever).
The 340 is based on the 343 which back then was supposed to replace the DAF 66, being called the DAF 77. Daf then gave up on building cars and went on building trucks. Pity.
Eitherway, I had a Volvo 440 an 144 before, so a 340 seems a nice addition to my car history.

And about Sweden... I'll have to go there to be sure, I guess :).

As for the car pic: Check 'manage attachements' in 'advanced' mode. It's somewhere below.

Dotoar 12-27-2010 06:14 PM

Yeah, those DAF's were cool with their belt transmission. Ingenious solution! The 66 model became Volvo 66 for a couple of years before the introduction of the 343.

Here we have my own pride:

God I love it.
Original paint? How rusty do these cars get in sweden?

The Volvo 66 actually drives pretty well. A friend of mine has a Daf 66 Marathon Sedan (rather rare, and it's tundra green, brilliant), but the Volvo is a lot more subtle. Pretty comfortable little thing. I've never driven a 340 so far, so really wondering what it'll be like :)

Dotoar 12-27-2010 08:03 PM

It's original paint yes, although the fenders have been replaces somewhere along the line. It has its share of rust around the edges but as usual, cars only get as rusty as you let them. I've been rather lucky through my car history in that department. I saw some pics of your Visa, by the way. Now that's a rarity! :thumb:

Thanks, and happy new year by the way!

I'm majoring in media and communication science and in addition to that I've studied political science, rethorics, philosophy, and for some reason psychology.
