I don't necessarily agree with a lot of the conservative politics associated with the genre, though it's an inconsistent affair... remember "Thank You, Mr President"? Nashville's unreleased tribute to Nixon?
And Charley Pride, a country artist with a career spanning four decades, and more record sales than Johnny Cash, remains largely uncelebrated... it's a difficult genre for African-Americans to get into, yet his contributions surely deserve widespread recognition? Oh and don't get me started on Cowboy Troy! :p |
