Default Hello everybody

I found this forum totally by accident, basically just by browsing. And I'm loving it.

In the years of my music loving, I listened to all kinds of music. But what had the greatest impact on me was that whole alternative and avantgarde side of popular music. Sonic Youth and Swans are probably my all time favorites, especially their 80's albums. I love this so called noise scene, or industrial like Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire etc. Also, I like kraut-rock (Neu being my favorite), post-rock and that whole hypnotic, repetitive shtick. I love it when I have to discover beautiful melodies through the walls of noise.

I am, however, incurably fixated on late 70's, early 80's, as this New Wave period never lost its magic for me. I love punk, post-punk, electro-pop, and then Joy Division, Tuxedomoon (which I used to listen a lot), Pere Ubu, Suicide, The Fall, Public Image Ltd., etc.

I never got into jazz, unfortunately. I tried to approach it from progressive rock or Rock in Opposition, but I always had problems with it too. I'm definitely planning to give Henry Cow another listening, as I was able to digest Captain Beefheart much easier. I believe this forum will be helpful.

I don't have the favorite film, but there are films that left significant impact on me when I watched them (like the ones I mentioned in that thread). I was always more of a music lover, and so the first albums that hit me hard remained my favorites for good. Maybe it's the nature of music, it hits directly to the feelings.

Anyway, Lynch and Polanski were always my favorites, Lynch ever since the Twin Peaks series. It's hard for me too choose my most loved films by them - but if I have too, it would be "Lost Highway" and "The Tenant".

I also love those poetic and extremely visual directors like Tarkovsky and Malick. My favorite Tarkovsky film for now is "Stalker", Malick's probably "Badlands". I also like Herzog from what I saw, but I didn't see enough. Bergman's style appeals to me, but I have too see more from him, too. Of course, how can I forget Kubrick and Hitchcok.

I'm also a fan of horror movies, especially those psychological. But, I have too say, it's the only genre where I have a pretty high tolerance for all kinds of stupid things. I guess that makes it a guilty pleasure.
