Ahoy there =]

Well howdy fellow rockers.
I'm Sophie, known best as whatever the heck you want to call me, I'm a girl who tbh was born in the wrong decade, I'm a lover of rock; some new, mostly old bands.
I love Guns N' Roses, Black Stone Cherry, Duff Mckagan's Loaded, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Queen, a lil bit of Stone Sour, a lil bit of Velvet Revolver, and more =]
Love =D <3

P.S>> I'm from LONDONNN, England. YAH baby.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-22-2009 01:17 PM

what decade was that then?

1930s?

SaphiaGlam 10-22-2009 01:40 PM

I should have been born in the 60's. Then I'd have had alot more in common musically with people, but OH no I had to be born in the 90's.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-22-2009 01:44 PM

You'd also be nearly 50 years old

SaphiaGlam 10-22-2009 02:23 PM

That's younger than my parents...and they like ****ing good music so what's the problem with being older if you listen to great bands?!
What's your problem anyway...

Your profile makes interesting reading;

Good luck. :)

Queen were the first band I ever truly freakin' loved. Literally, I didn't know of any other bands but Queen. Then I moved through Led Zep, threw myself into a Michael Jackson frenzy, hauled back into rock, re-fell in love with Aerosmith, got into Guns N' Roses after going out with a dude in a Gn'R tribute band, had Motley Crue recommended to me, fell in love with Duff Mckagan(ex-bassist of Gn'R), found his band Loaded, saw them live with The Parlor Mob and Black Stone Cherry, and it all went from there.
I can't help loving some metal as well, cuz basically every member of my band are hardcore Metallica fans.
They're all awesome groups! So don't say it's sad seeing Queen 'grouped in' with my other favourite bands!

Thanks for the slightly friendlier welcomes btw; Kayleigh and AwwSugar =]

It's just that in my opinion those other bands aren't that great but I really liker Queen. But it doesn't matter everyone has their own opinion.

Welcome to musicbanter

Not a problem, this place is really friendly, you just have to get to know everyone! I only joined about 2 months ago, so technically im a Noob too! :D
there will be people you gradually make friends with, because shared music tastes etc! :)

SaphiaGlam 10-23-2009 05:54 AM

I think Queen most probably always will be my favourite band, considering I listened to nothing but them from when I was about 8 yrs old to when I was about 11, and I still love them so much! I wasn't necessarily categorizing them with my other favourite bands, just putting them down as one of the best. But it's all a matter of opinion, god knows I make mine known often enough! So yeah I respect what you think.
Thanks =]

Mojo 10-23-2009 06:46 AM

I wouldn't take things to heart so much. Were all opinionated and for open discussion so you probably will need to learn to accept criticism. I like Oasis and Metallica, i get my fair share.

Personally i like bits of GnR and littler bits of Aerosmith and Crue but i detest Queen. An Englishman who detests Queen is practically a leper as far as some people i have met are concerned but my musical taste doesnt change just because others don't agree with me, you know?

Anyway, sorry for the essay but welcome to MB :thumb:

Yeah sorry xD I get a tad crazy when I talk bout the things I love. Need to get on top of that.
Naww I've met some English people who LOATH Queen, I'd say about 1/100 of the British population actually hate them, considering what a mega-iconic English band they are and how popular the music is xD
Well thanks for the welcome and I hope to have more opinionated convos in the future! =]

Arya Stark 10-25-2009 03:31 PM

Yessir.

Antonio 10-25-2009 03:38 PM

just wondering, could you name a few of these "beyond sh*t modern emo scene kid crap" groups that you detest so much?

SaphiaGlam 10-25-2009 03:45 PM

Yahhh Sugar ^_^

Urrm..tbh I despise Fallout Boy, My Chemical Romance(except Desolation Row, that's an awesome cover xD), 30 Secs to Mars...Anything with a fringe and guyliner really. I know thats chucking everything in one group and you'll hate that, but I really cannot stand all these poppy emo group wailing about dying and girls and parties. Not cool.

Antonio 10-25-2009 03:54 PM

yeah, i kinda saw that coming. nothing against you, just that when people say they hate new music those bands usually are mentioned.

but really, that isn't the only style of music out there right now, you know. hell, just look at some of the threads on this site and i'm pretty sure you'll find some new music that'll suit your tastes.

either way, welcome to the site :)

storymilo 10-25-2009 03:58 PM

Welcome Saphia.

I'll agree with Antonio and Rickenbacker and say that you really should try opening up to more modern music. As an example, these are some bands that I love and are fairly recent.

TV On The Radio
The Flaming Lips
Radiohead
Phish
My Morning Jacket
Mastodon
Green Day
Elvis Costello (He's still making music)
The White Stripes
The Dead Weather
Dave Matthews Band
M.I.A
Fleet Foxes
Cat Power
Porcupine Tree
Pearl Jam
Arctic Monkeys

and a lot more:)

dtx21 10-25-2009 04:30 PM

Niiice, man. Yeah the 80's/90's were killer era's!

TOtally listening to Dio right now too! That man may be short, but HELL does he have a powerful voice!

dtx21 10-25-2009 04:32 PM

k there, Pearl Jam is not new.. lol. Doesnt change the fact that they should be listened to on a regular basis, though.

They just came out with a new album...

dtx21 10-25-2009 04:34 PM

Also, if you're into music that will make your mind explode. I reccommend Dream Theater.. especially if you like Porcupine Tree.. I personally favour DT, but PT is aiight!

storymilo 10-25-2009 04:35 PM

No

Radiohead I do love the song 15 Step.

Dave Matthews Band

I think I should just start all over again with this forum cuz I was thinking about it for like 3 hours last night, I am so full of **** xD Beyonce is one of my all-time favourite singers, and riiiight I'll just turn this into a big all-out confession; I'm such a sucker for hip-hop and rn'b. It's a little embarassing. Cuz like, I am the most un-gangstaa-ish person ever. I went through a faze of wearing only trackies and high-tops and hoodies after I saw Step Up 2 The Streets, and took weekly street-dancing classes, but like I said, my main passion is rock and classic rock, but I do love pretty much everything except the dreaded emo music.
*waits for hate*

Mojo 10-26-2009 04:01 AM

Ah, just listen to Mastodon already! :p:

Recommending stuff is of course fine, but what's with the judgmental attitude? I don't think anyone who has just joined the community is going to look at you as an authority on what they should or should not listen to. Neither do I think they should. It would be a boring community if everyone listened to the same and the first thing that happens to newcomers shouldn't be attempts at forced conformity by posters like yourself.

If you're sure it really doesn't matter, then maybe you should practice what you believe and consider easing up on the negative feedback.

Anyways, hi SaphiaGlam and welcome to musicbanter ;)

Although you like popular bands, htye don't get that much exposure here - at least I know there are no Queen, Velvet Revolver or Motley Crue reviews out of the currently 704 reviews in the index. Instead of telling you that you should like something else, I'd rather encourage you to keep at it and perhaps write about/review some of the bands you like. Although I'm not a big fan myself, it's a bit ridiculous to not have a Queen review on a music site with as many reviews and interest in music from those times as we have. Also, I'd love to see a hair metal journal or something similar sometime in the future even if I don't have that much appreciation for it myself!

Mojo 10-26-2009 04:06 AM

Theres no Guns n Roses either, im a little surprised by that.

Yep, also quite weird .. Someone needs to review some GnR!

I personally like them although it has a lot to do with teenage nostalgia. Welcome to the Jungle is a kickass song, I think. If I'm sufficiently drunk, then I can still appreciate songs like November Rain (awesome guitar btw) and Paradise City :p: I'll have to check out chinese democracy one of these days.

Mojo 10-26-2009 04:15 AM

I tend to like some GnR for the same reasons really. I can't actually remember the last time i listened to them now, excluding Chinese Democracy which i listened to a few times when it was released. I really don't like it at all but it's worth a listen to form your own opinion.
