Default Hello and so on.

I'm a nineteen-year old university student (studying English Literature, so I can get all the necessary qualifications to be a taxi driver or assistant manager at McDonalds - although I'm also doing Archaeology & French, so I'm not completely wasting my time at Uni) and music is the thing I spend most time and money on.

My main interests (currently) are classical music, soul/funk, reggae/dub/dancehall, the various "club/dance music" genres (particularly DnB). My favourite musical artists are:

Beethoven, Mozart, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Saint-Saens, Bartok, Debussy, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Gershwin and Britten.

Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, James Brown, The JB's, The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, Marvin ***e, Sly & the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder (Songs in the Key of Life is my pick for best album ever), Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler and Parliament/Funkadelic.

The Skatalites, The Specials, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Mikey Dread, Scientist, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ijahman, King Tubby, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Anthony Red Rose, the King Jammy's Selector comps and Toots and the Maytals.

Larry Levan, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke, Shut Up and Dance, DJ Hype, Dillinja, High Contrast, Skream, Distance, and the Bonkers series.

Stuff that doesn't fit into any of what are currently the main four categories: Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Django Reinhardt, Herbie Mann, The Fall, Dead Kennedys, Captain Beefheart, Serge Gainsbourg, Francoise Hardy, Half Man Half Biscuit, Meat Puppets, Beach Boys, Kate Bush, NWA, Geto Boys, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, 2pac, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, J Dilla, DJ Screw, DJ Shadow, Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Skepta, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell, Dock Boggs.

I'm also exploring the many, many musics of Africa: current favourites are Fela Kuti, E.T. Mensah, Biggie Tembo, Etoile de Dakar and Manu Dibango.

Although this is a music forum, I might as well also mention my favourite films & books.

Films - Annie Hall, Big Lebowski, Eraserhead, Stalker, Magnolia, Assault on Precint 13 (original), Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange, M, Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment, The Wild Bunch, Withnail & I, If..., ****ing Amal, Badlands, and so on...

Books - A Confederacy of Dunces is my favourite book. Authors I enjoy include Philip K ****, Clive Barker, Tom Sharpe, Kurt Vonnegut, Franz Kafka, Bret Easton Ellis, Charles Bukowski, HG Wells...various books include Crime and Punishment, At Swim-Two Birds, Catch-22 and Absolute Beginners and many more.

And that's about it, I guess. Too long, I know.

Edit: Philip K bleep, eh?
