yet another newbie seeks acceptance into mb
Hey everyone. I'm 17, live in the midwest, and really enjoy music. (Why else would I be here?) I know this forum is awesome because I've already been lurking around here for a while, and I've found a ton of promising looking music that I'm going to check out when I get back home in a couple weeks. Anyway, I play drums and bass, but I'm not that great at either. I know I could be good if I put more effort into it, but I have lazy tendencies. The following activities consume at least 90 percent of my available free time.
films video games (I also love video game soundtracks. My favorite is FF5 by Nobuo Uematsu) books music (surprising isn't it?) Anyway, here's a list of 10 of my favorite musicians/artists right now in descending order. The top 5 will be in order. Frank Zappa Parliament/Funkadelic Captain Beefheart The Fall Pixies Curtis Mayfield James Brown The Velvet Underground Howlin' Wolf Jaco Pastorius Honorable Mentions David Bowie B.B King Public Enemy Miles Davis T.Rex |

Not happy about the video games though |

Welcome. Nice intro. Don't pay any attention to Urban - he's old and often flaccid. Video games are a plus in my book. And Zappa at the top of the list? Mm-hmm. And you're only seventeen? Well done, sir.

Curtis Mayfield hey? You'll do.
Welcome to MB morgos. |
I've never been so much into the Pixies, but otherwise that's a damn cool top 10 you've got there.
Welcome aboard. |

hello and welcome. The coolest band you mentioned was Captain Beefheart. I'm not saying they are better then the others, it's just don't hear much about them. I have this aversion for bands that are named drop ad nauseum, but I'm not questioning how talent they are, when I say that. Thank you for not having Muddy Waters in your top ten, it's breathe of fresh air to see Howlin Wolf then Muddy Waters, but then again I would rather see Jimmy Smith or Wes Montgomery then Miles, but hey it's your list - pretty cool list David Bowie can be just as avant garde or weird as Zappa at times. I like reading about Zappa more so then listening to his music. When he got on his soap box and started bitchin about the Music Business, I can't put the book down, it's riveting. Where The Ventures that instrumental band you were talking about being your fave? |
