I should rifle through your LastFM for recs.

I used to LastFM but I got pissed about the privacy violations and quit. If I were going to recommend something for you, it would probably be Kavinsky or Poni Hoax.

My favorite PH solo album is The Future Now, which is an effortless work of pop, rock, and prog mastery. I feel that David Bowie owes a debt to PH and VdGG that he will never publically admit to - a debt probably much greater than any of the ones he WILL admit to.

But yeah Lansing Dreiden is the best thing that ever happened to my ears. I heard Incomplete Triangle by accident soon after it was released, and it was like an electrical storm in my bathing suit area, IYKWIM, AITYD, IRTYD. I'd never heard anything I loved so much so quickly before.

I was pre-apologizing for U2. :( The part of my musical lineage that I am most ashamed of.

I have strong and mixed feelings about U2, the band that got me off my pre-teen dance pop fixation. But no sooner did I find them then they veered away from anything I would consider listenable! It was only on their recommendations that I listened to Joy Division or David Bowie or all kinds of other critically important music.

I owe them a listener's debt that can't be paid down, but I also can't listen to anything released after Passenger. Except Discotheque in weak moments. And I hate Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum now just because I've heard it too much.

My favorite U2 album has been Unforgettable Fire for a few (7?) years now.

My favorite Bowie album is Low and my favorite Scott album is Scott 3, but Tilt is not very far behind.

That is one I haven't not heard but was interested in. Funny you mention that about Bowie...when I first heard VdGG (Pawn Hearts was my first) some of the vocals reminded me of Bowie and it helped me get into them.
