Signed up a while back, never introduced myself
Hey folks. I signed up in September 08 (didn't realize it was that long ago!) but never introduced myself. Nor did I post much...just one post and a few poll votes, really.
I'm always looking for places to kill time online, and music is my favorite hobby. So here I am, ready to meet some new folks and discuss and discover music. |
Fave bands?

Ha, thanks!
Oh and I guess I should have mentioned some of my favorite bands, as jackhammer suggests. I like many different genres including rock (punk, hardcore, post-rock/instrumental, indie, prog, psych, mod/psych pop, etc), industrial (mainly what's considered post-industrial and industrial rock), hip-hop and trip-hop/instrumental (hate the top 40 stuff...beats matter most), electronic (IDM, experimental, house, breaks, downtempo etc). Here are a few favs from various genres: Punk/hardcore/indie rock: Fugazi Dillinger Four On the Might of Princes Hot Cross City of Caterpillar mewithoutYou The Casket Lottery Sunny Day Real Estate Juno Charlottefield Bad Astronaut Descendents Misfits Burning Airlines Faraquet Fireside Bear vs. Shark Cursive No Knife Knapsack Seven Storey Mountain 31Knots Polvo June of 44 Shipping News ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead At the Drive-In Built to Spill Pinback Sebadoh Band of Horses Les Savy Fav The Shins Pixies Neutral Milk Hotel Snuff/Guns n Wankers Swingin' Utters Rise Against (lost interest with last 2 albums) Prog & classic rock: The Blue Effect/Modrý Efekt Black Bonzo Invisible Genesis King Crimson Pink Floyd Banco del Mutuo Soccorso Premiata Forneria Marconi Museo Rosenbach Il Balletto di Bronzo Änglagård The Mars Volta Van Der Graaf Generator Wishbone Ash Jimi Hendrix Yes Arachnoid Ripaille Pentacle Eloy Spring Rush Yezda Urfa Post-rock/instrumental: Cougar Tortoise Lateduster Maserati Pivot Russian Circles Irepress Lymbyc Systym Benevento Russo Duo Rumah Sakit Sleeping People Tera Melos 60s/70s Psychedelic Pop/Mod/Pop Rock: The Beatles David Bowie The Kinks Love Small Faces The Pretty Things McDonald and Guiles The Zombies Tages Metal & other rock: Dead Horse Tool Melvins Faith No More Mr. Bungle Tomahawk Failure ISIS Mastodon Deftones Suicidal Tendencies (pre-Art of Rebellion) Ween Industrial: Skinny Puppy Download Ministry (pre-Filth Pig) Meat Beat Manifesto Electronic: Eight Frozen Modules Plaid Aphex Twin Super_Collider Venetian Snares Chris Clark Amon Tobin Hip-Hop/Trip-Hop: Prefuse 73 Sixtoo Odd Nosdam Flying Lotus Conrad Newholmes Beastie Boys Cannibal Ox Aesop Rock Wax Tailor Blockhead DJ Vadim Antipop Consortium Phew! |

Thanks for the welcome, folks!

Welcome! Nice list of bands AND you organized them into genres! :thumb:
I've heard great things about Seattle's music scene. I'm moving to Olympia in a few months. I can't wait! What opinions do you have of the local music? |
I'm pretty much a home-body, so I'm no authority. Plus I've lived here less than 3 years. But, people definitely are into music and there's no shortage of live shows. It's definitely not a city that good artists overlook when touring. I used to live in Houston, where I caught some great shows too, but it seemed to also get overlooked by small foreign artists. Or maybe I wasn't paying attention.
What kind of shows would you be interested in? |
I've been reading through some of your posts today, good stuff. You should definitely stick around.

Hey thanks dreadnaught! I'm liking this place so far, just trying to work through the confusion of all the different forums.
