HI! I'm Nina

HI! I really hope people are nice here. Some forums are very negative and people are dis-respectful to one another.

I am a music journalist but my goals include writing a new book about the history of Grunge and the 90's music that helped shape my life.

My favorite band is Nirvana. There will never be a replacement for Kurt Cobain in my view. Other bands that I love are Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden.

There is not too much new musc out there that I like. When I am not listening to Grunge...I like to listen to Nina Simone ( whom I was named after ) and Etta James.

I am hoping to find out about some great new bands here..if they do exist anymore :-) I like Vampire Weekend and Kings Of Leon and a few more new bands that have new fresh sounds. I am not sure where the new music threads are here but I am sure I will find them once I have time to explore the site.

Also, I write lyrics & a friend of mine said that they thought there was a songwriter community here? I am not sure if they are correct though maybe someone can let me know. But I am shy about my lyrics too since I am not a professional songwriter so it may be a long time before I have the courage to post my songs Ha Ha

Hey! I think we're going to like you here.
To attend to your concern, there are definitely better bands out there than Vampire Weekend and Kings of Leon, so don't lose faith ; )

There is a songwriting and poem writing community here. If you get more confident then post some lyrics up, we'd love to read them.

Also, we're nice if you follow rules : D
I'm no mod, but I see how it is around here. The mods are strict about the rules and thank god, because if they weren't then we'd have thousands of obnoxious members as opposed to the few hundred quality members we already have.

It'll get easier to post your lyrics in the future when you start seeing everyone on a regular basis.

Just... again... make sure you don't step over the rules. Bad things happen : D

WELCOME!

Well thank you very much!! I really appreciate your letting me know the low-down here.

I want to spend a few days exploring the boards here and reading the threads since there probably isn't much for me to contribute at first. I am interested in hearing about what peopel are listening too and how people feel about the shift in the music industry/ record industry to p2p and OMD etc... Some of my friends who are in bands and are touring are not really making any money anymore selling CDs..it's a shame to see that...but the world is in a critical phase of flux right now...everything that was the norm is not any more. My favorite store in the whole world, Virgin CD Megastore in Times Square...is closing. Sign of the times. :-( I really hope good music can survive.

Good music never dies, it just lies buried under a **** pile of bad music.

I've seen that happen too often. Two great stores, one of them a city landmark here in Toronto have closed because people just aren't buying CDs like they used to. Heck, people aren't buying physical representations of music like they used to, in any format.

F*uck.

Awesome to see people that still dig the 90s scene. One of my favorites by far, and holds the height popularity of most of my favorite bands.

The 90s were fantastic. It's my favourite decade for music. Independent music in the 90s was so exciting.

I agree. I get **** from some people though because I'm a huge 311 fan and people act like they kinda fell off the face of the Earth after Down and All Mixed Up cleared the radio a bit. They still put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.
