Can we hear from some who have been mentored? You know..to see if they got anything out of it. lol I would love to hear some success stories.

Arya Stark 03-25-2010 07:40 PM

If you go back a bit, I think StoryMilo said something about his adoption.

xi.heart.fobx 03-28-2010 08:24 PM

Adopt me!

storymilo 03-28-2010 08:29 PM

Fall out boy?

Oh lulz

duga 03-28-2010 09:08 PM

It only means she is ripe for adopting...oh the wonderful music you are missing out on.

Arya Stark 03-28-2010 09:49 PM

I want Dayna to take her. xD

Sansa Stark 03-28-2010 10:16 PM

You best be trollin

Arya Stark 03-28-2010 10:43 PM

Hahaha. <3
You'd be hard on her.
That's what matters.

Mandelorean 03-29-2010 08:52 AM

Are there any people that just bypass the whole mentor phase because they are already well rounded and mature? lol

Most people don't do the whole mentor thing.

DeathBreath 04-21-2010 05:20 PM

Anyone interested in claiming me?
I'm really clueless about this forum right now.

Maybe.

First, answer these:

Beatles or Rolling Stones?

What is your opinion on the Smashing Pumpkins?

If you had to choose between your music player or your cell phone, which would survive?

Do you know the difference between shoegaze and dreampop?

Arya Stark 04-21-2010 05:36 PM

Pon and Zi. =D

Probably the Beatles, their music makes me happy.
Don't listen to them, sorry.
Music player all the way, I can easily not have my phone. Barely use it anyway.
Oh wow, I'm no expert on genres, I'm easily confused like that but I know there is a slight difference. Just don't know what it is. :/

I'm sorry if this completely fails. ^

I'll give you 2/4 on those. There was no wrong answer for the first question, but the perfect answer would have been both. Because they both kick ass.

Anyways, your homework for tonight, if you accept the challenge, is to listen to Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins and let us know what you think in the "last album i bought or downloaded" thread.

Then I will adopt you. And you will learn many things.

Shall do sensei.

For just £5 a month you could sponsor a lowly music addict like Salome and keep her Rapidshare account open or provide her with a lovely piece of vinyl to add to her collection.

Alternatively, adopt me for free. I assure you I'm neat, friendly and corruptible!

The or made him feel obligated to pick one though.. and he picked the right one.

That is the most enjoyable homework assignment anyone will ever receive ever.

Beatles or The Stones?

What do you think of the Manchester scene? (Joy Division, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Oasis.) Which Manchester band is your favourite if any?

Do you like Indie music?

Interrogation!

I prefer the Beatles. Though i love "Let it Bleed".

Love the Stone Roses- soundtrack to my teenage years. Not so fussed on the Smiths.

Define Indie music. As in "Independent music" or the likes of Blur, Oasis, Artic Monkeys etc?

Basically I'm a music whore. I can find at least one band in most genres of music that i can get on board with.

I love Let It Bleed as well but prefer The Beatles. :thumb:

Stone Roses S/T was brilliant, but I prefer The Smiths forever and always. :(

Oasis and Arctic Monkeys aren't really Indie in the true sense of the world, but I'd put them in the same category as other Indie bands because it would seem silly separating them. I have a lot of love for Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. First bands I got into.

You seem like you could be a decent poster, hope you stick around. :thumb:

Thanks!!
That means a lot coming from a Mancunian- as far as I'm concerned Manchester has always had the best bands:

E.g. Autechre, Magazine, New Order, Happy Mondays, Doves, Oasis, The Fall , Future Sound of London, the Bee Gees...okay, maybe not the Bee Gees. But you know what i mean:-/

snacklover 05-04-2010 05:08 PM

I'm putting myself up for adoption! However I have a rather busy schedule so I might not be able to keep up with all the listening. But if anyone's interested let me know!

Arya Stark 05-04-2010 05:35 PM

Tell me something about yourself. [=

snacklover 05-07-2010 10:52 PM

Something? Hm, well here's five fun facts about me:
1. I'm the worst driver I know
2. I'm ADHD (predominantly inattentive type)
3. I look good in hats
4. I'm way too preoccupied with sex (for a girl)
5. I'm a pretty good snowboarder!

Other than that, I'm just some typical 17 year old who listens to the typical classic rock bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc... you get the drift. Lately though I've been trying to explore different genres of music more deeply, starting with soul and hip-hop, but I'm really open to everything and I'd appreciate if someone could guide me through what's "good" and what's not... not sure what else to add to this!

So am I eligible for adoption?? Haha!

Mikael 05-10-2010 12:32 AM

Cyberadoption? I'm down.

Orpheus 05-19-2010 04:59 PM

I'd like to put myself up for adoption. :)

Definitely eligible, but we don't really have the same taste in music. I wouldn't know what to do with you! I'll see if anyone else is interested. [=

As for you two, what kind of music do you guys like?
I haven't adopted in a while.

Orpheus 05-19-2010 09:21 PM

Pretty much any classical artist you can think of. I really enjoy post-rock and prog-rock and essentially most classic rock. There's even a little ska and jazz thrown in there, though I'm just now getting into those genres.

Also, I just glanced at your profile and saw you're interested in philosophy. I am too...

Are you? I was actually going to minor in it, but I changed my mind. Hahaha.
Have you taken any classes?
And can you drop some artist names? Maybe I can recommend someone for you.

I've never taken any classes... my interest is pretty casual, and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it something bigger in my life. I just find all of it quite fascinating in a fun, mind-boggling sort of way.

Ulrich Schnauss, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Squarepusher, Pink Floyd, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Streetlight Manifesto, The Who...

NumberNineDream 05-19-2010 10:30 PM

^As a Pink Floyd fan, which is your favourite album?

I really hate having to choose. It would have to be a tie between Animals and The Final Cut. What's your favorite?

NumberNineDream 05-19-2010 10:38 PM

Piper at the Gates ... then Wish you were here, Animals and Meddle.

If you haven't checked Piper, I strongly recommend it (obviously).

Orpheus 05-19-2010 10:46 PM

Don't worry, I have their whole discography and listen to them on a daily basis hehe :D

I'm so glad you didn't say DSOTM. I'm really sick of hearing people say they're such a big PF fan when they've only listened to Dark Side and WYWH or something.

Yeah, I took one class. I liked it, but the teacher was an ass, and when I ended up with a C in that class because I didn't study, I realized that I probably shouldn't pursue it as a career.
It's definitely mind-boggling.
And I like Sigur Ros, or what I've heard of them.
How old are you?

Same here!
Not as annoying as having listened to only The Wall (although I was one of these people :o: )

Awesome! What have you heard?

I'm eighteen. Nineteen in a month or so.

Still, The Wall is better than some can do. My dad considered himself a PF fan, having only known about DSOTM, Animals, and WYWH. He was fascinated to find that they had albums other than those three...

charliecurlyfry 05-23-2010 09:45 PM

I need a mentor! XD

AleG 05-29-2010 06:27 PM

Someone adopt me? I'm already potty-trained...
