Yeah, I agree that the younger they are, the more adaptive they seem to be (I'm sure this probably applies to most every species). I don't really think cats are "trainable," I mean to a small extent maybe, but mostly, they are who they are, and the human will either learn to accept that or get a different kitty. Sure, they are perfectly adept at adaptation, but they like to hang their hat on the notion that any changes in their behavior were "their choice" and not anyone else's. If they utilize the litter box, it's because they want to; ditto for when they **** all over your floor. |

I won't go into all the odd nuances of my relationship with the drifter tomcat (that came out wrong), but suffice it to say we have a standing alliance that as long as he controls the local rodent population (which he has taken care of VERY well), then I turn the other cheek to the fact that that little bastard has ZERO respect for litter boxes. Luckily, he usually always cues me when it's time to let him out.

Call her Jimmy Hoffa, so if she ever gets lost you can tell people you're looking for Jimmy Hoffa.

@ dj: thanks, man I was waiting on her to tell me her name, and then my pops told me that the little girl who lives next to him named her "Libby." At first I wasn't a fan, but she responds well to it and made it clear that that's her preferred first name (of course, a cat must have three separate names... but that's a poem for a different time). It's grown on me
@ Bat: ya know, that's a damn good idea. I'm putting Jimmy Hoffa in the reservoir for the next drifter tomcat who walks into my life. |
