Took your advice typed in Cesaria Evora and found a site; www.caboverde.com previewing her albums, about 10 seconds listening for each track, sounds great.
Is she singing in Portuguese (excuse my ignorance),also, what is Cape verde music and does it have South American influences?
Discovered David Byrne of Talking Heads is a big fan and in my eyes thats some recommendation!

huraaa....but do you have a problem with downloading? ( as in it's illegal ) because i find that those previews ( 10 or 30 sec ) don't really give you the full idea...
she does sing in portugese, cabo verde is a small island state just of the coast of west africa, an ex-portugese colony...that's why their ( and angolan music, also an ex-portugese colony ) is so strange, melancholic, under the influence of portugese music ( fado ) and some elements of Brazilian music also....take my advice and at least download the first couple of songs....when you close your eyes you can imagine the dead summer afternoon on a remote island, you're in a run down little house, the fan is blowing but it ain't doing much good, you're playin the radio and it's so hot... nothing to do....the wind is blowing slowly and the palm trees are whistling..........oh sorry, i got a bit carried away....

Jesus Christ Adidasss you more or less described what was going through my head when I was listening to her music!!!
I can see why you like her, there is a definate feel of melancholy there.
Never even heard of this artist before, thanks for switching me on, shame I don't speak Portuguese, she has such a soulful tone to her voice and I'd love to know what she was on about.

i think it's really hypocritical of certain members of this forum to diss others for not being willing to give certain suggestions a try and then completely disregard the gems that i keep suggesting...so i'm just gonna keep attracting attention to this thread until someone listens to me....( and posts his/her comment )

Like most people I consider my musical tastes to be broad and varied.
I'm constantly on the lookout for anything new, whether it's a music genre or a single track by an unknown artist. If it's something or someone I've not heard before, I'll check it out.
It's one of the reasons I return to this forum.
If some people are not interested in any other music but their own, then that's fine by me...it's their loss.
Everyone has their own opinions, they are neither right or wrong - they're just opinions, however there is such a thing as good taste and you either have it, or you don't.
Anybody who claims to know anything about music should check out Cesaria Evora, this artist deserves as much recognition and attention as her natural and effortless talent deserves.

Bah--office firewall won't let me out to that Web site--will have to check later. I'm always up for checking out anything in Portugese though, so thanks for posting.
