Purbayan Chatterjee plays the sitar like demon on steroids.
Dmitri Hvorostovsky produces great russian folk music despite the fact i cant understabd the words.
ambrosia- great african trible band.

P.s. im still not happy. can we at least have folk as a sub-genre?

i've heard tinariwen are supposed to be the best african rock band, i've yet to hear their work, but there's nothing like the smooth cape verdian music of cesaria evora when you're at the beach and the sun is scorchin away and you're watching the blue blue sea and chillin....aaaaaa....only 3 more weeks till summer ......

up until i moved i listened to a lot of 'kwaito' it's south african! WOHO AFRICA! but it's really lively but i haven't really listened to much anymore...:(

bar the western music culture, i think african trible has to be the most alluring form of of music. the steel drum ska influences of jamaica tickles my aural buds aswell.

i have to admit i don't much like african music , i like cesaria evora and angolan music because of it's portugese/brasilian influences....clearcut african music doesn't appeal to me...and i think portugese is one of the most beautiful languages for singing...it just flows...

shandapanda 06-17-2005 01:17 PM

i love the dance, sometimes. when i was a kid all my cousins and i would try to dance like some of the girls in those angolan and other southern african videos! they play them all the time!...i miss home......
