The National

New album comes out on Friday. I've been a huge fan since the early 2000s. Every time I hear their old stuff it's like the song has taken on new meaning with time. They become more than just an interesting beat, or an exciting new release. It's like I am opening up old time capsules and remembering my emotions in the early 2000s.

They released a few singles and my favorite so far is Eucalyptus. It's about a couple splitting up their possessions after a breakup - like, 'what about the cowboy junkies? What about the Afghan Wigs?' It’s about all those little things you end up having to think about when you’ve become so connected to someone.

I am keeping the Afghan Wigs :)

I hope there are other National fans out there.

Yes. A group of Sad Dads. I still love the lyrics and soundscapes.

What I've heard from this band hasn't impressed me, apart from their good taste in using part of a Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 song in own of their own tunes, and despite the fact I'm a Cincinnatian. But I'm willing to reconsider. What's one of their albums you would especially recommend?

I think The National is one of those bands you either connect with or you don't. While I may not always relate to Matt Berninger's lyrics directly, I love how he explores the complexities of life, love, and loss. If I had to choose a favorite album, it would be High Violet. I once upon a time moved and lived in Ohio and had just bought this album (2010). It resonated with me. My top songs are 'Bloodbuzz Ohio', Conversations 16, 'Sorrow', and 'Anyone's Ghost' - in that order.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give it a listen when I get the chance.
