If you like Wilco, you should check out the more country-rooted Son Volt.

I guess people have different views on what exactly can be classed as indie! It really annoys me when people will not listen to bands who are more 'mainstream' just because they are more mainstream does not mean they are pseudo-indie NME tripe ;)

Personally I love indie music and the list below is what I'm into at the moment! I think it can be classed as indie, although I agree bands like the white stripes are more blues-rock :)

Doves
Jet
White stripes
he coral
Maximo Park
Simian
Franz Ferdinand
Razorlight
Death Cab for cutie
Kings of Leon (I think these guys will make it very very big)
The cribs
Bloc party
The futureheads
Kaiser Chiefs
Rooney
The strokes
The Zutons
The Dead 60's
The Libertines

:)

You can be blues rock and still be indie, seeing as how indie isn't a genre. And...

Doves = Major label
Jet = Major label
White stripes = Major label
The coral = Major label
Maximo Park = Indie label
Simian = Major label
Franz Ferdinand = Major label
Razorlight = Major label
Death Cab for cutie = Major label
Kings of Leon = Major label
The cribs = Major label
Bloc party = Major label
The futureheads = Major label
Kaiser Chiefs = Major labe
Rooney = Major label
The strokes = Major label
The Zutons = Major label
The Dead 60's = Major label
The Libertines = Indie label

Do you see now why I would call those bands "pseudo-indie NME tripe?" Almost all are signed to a major label or a subsidiary of a major label, almost all are written about by the NME, and almost all are bad.
