The Flaming Lips

These guys are amazing. They always have really bizzare and cool song titles. My all time favorite song of their's is "She Don't Use Jelly".

Supposedly their live shows are pretty crazy. If anyone has seen them live, I'd be interested in hearing what it was like.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-22-2005 06:51 PM

Never seen them live but want to ...BADLY

On the Fearless Freaks DVD there`s a clip of them playing in the 80s in some small club & the whole stage is on fire.

Funniest thing I have ever seen on a music video

Ditto

They look so pretty on stage.... I'm going to their next UK show I don't care where it is. Bring it on.

bloodsugar 08-23-2005 04:19 PM

goood stuff.
id like to see them live as well.

Fenixpunk 08-23-2005 04:23 PM

wow, they are playing on a 4 day cruise ship from Long Beach, Ca to Ensenada, Mexico

IndiElectronica 08-24-2005 03:32 AM

my bro was friends with the bassist 20 years ago... shame they didn't stay friends.

Saw them at Glasto a couple years ago, they were good, but a little weird. Very good, though eclectic music

TheBig3 08-24-2005 03:48 AM

I've seen them live and wasn't too impressed. I hate the long drawn out songs. Thier cover of "Can't get you out of my head" was pretty good.

Imonlydancing 08-24-2005 07:16 AM

I like what I've heard by them.

kinderhook 10-02-2005 05:53 PM

Favorite Lips album? It's tough, but i'd say The Soft Bulletin. Transmissions is a close second though.

Jacinda 10-07-2005 11:29 AM

I saw them back up Beck on Austin City Limits. Though i'm sure they are tallented, it was an odd match. It was as though they were trying too hard. I can't hold it against them. If I was on the stage with Beck, I'd shove the tallent bar too.

Shooting Star 01-29-2006 08:35 AM

The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots are both really great albums.

Scarlett O'Hara 02-05-2006 02:46 AM

I'm so glad I found this thread!

I love them so much, I discovered them myself for once, and they are so different from what I normally listen to!

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-05-2006 02:53 AM

You should hear some of their earlier material.

We`re talking serious headf*ck here

Pink City 02-18-2006 11:26 PM

Their new album is due out soon. i got a sneak peak and if u like Yoshimi battles the pink robots, you'll LOVE this new one.

venn diagrams 03-07-2006 06:22 PM

the lips are one of my favorite bands, although i honestly wish they had more "fun" songs of the "she don't use jelly" variety, and fewer slow, drawn out tracks, although they do both styles well.

TheBig3 03-07-2006 07:27 PM

I'll pay gold if someone can hook me up with this. They have a Song on what might be the first or second album and its called Hare Krishna Stomp Wagon (**** Led Zeppelin) and I can't find the damn thing anywhere.

If someone has it and can get it to me (digitally) I'll give you money*

mosesandtherubberducky 03-07-2006 08:09 PM

Big3 I did a quick search for it and I can't find it either.

Anyways, I downloaded Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots about a week ago and it has gotten heavy play in my cd player. I just dig the sound and how it is calming. And I like how in Youshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt.1 the guitar slips away in the mix and fades back in.

soundgardenrox 03-08-2006 09:57 PM

Flaming Lips are the only good band to come out of OK. I can say this because im from OK. I love their stuff from the 90's. And their record is great too.

swim 04-14-2006 12:10 PM

bump.

much love. incredible band.

Anxious Mo-Fo 04-18-2006 09:18 PM

Pretty wild music. Has anyone here listened to Zaireeka by playing all four discs at the same time (the way its supposed to be played)?

swim 08-18-2006 03:39 PM

I just got the new one because I'm slow and it's surprisingly good. After 20 years they can still make damn good music.

YakMusic 08-18-2006 07:54 PM

Loved the doco - was such an interesting insight!

dogbreath1 08-22-2006 12:12 PM

Probably one of the finest bands around at the mo. They've been around for ever and hopefully will produce more studio albums.

Their last three releases have been stunning, but for me, The Soft Bulletin was a sublime peak and will take some beating.

beat yr own KID 08-22-2006 11:21 PM

Easily the best band making music today. At war with the mystics is amazing and Yoshimi is probably one of my favorite albums of all time.

spencermiles 09-26-2006 04:06 PM

bump.

One of the greatest bands ever.

Saw them live this summer for the first time at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley. Put on an unbelievable show.

right-track 09-26-2006 04:09 PM

I've been recently getting into this band big time.
Found some of their tracks a bit heavy going to begin with, but then it all clicked into place and now I just can't get enough of them.
Incredible band.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-26-2006 04:17 PM

Their early stuff is a total mindf*ck

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-26-2006 04:22 PM

Oh Transmissions is good

First album of theirs I ever bought.

Violet Cookie 09-27-2006 12:39 PM

I've only heard their latest album - At war with the mystics. I like it though, must check out their other stuff.
Their gigs look good. I've only seen them on tv though. Have you seen the lead singer crowd surfing in the giant bubble?...looks like fun!

Soundgardener 09-29-2006 08:53 PM

If you want some old school Lips, pick up:

'Finally The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid'

It's a compilation of the first three studio albums, self titled EP, and bonus tracks. It will tell you all you need to know about early Flaming Lips, the universe, ufos, etc.

Mr Sensitive 10-03-2006 09:34 AM

I've never really listened to them before, but I'm downloading Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots right now.

tdoc210 10-18-2006 03:26 PM

right track got me into them, thanks r-t, i have oh my gawd, clouds taste metallic, and at war with the mystics, and the ego tripping e.p

swim 10-18-2006 03:30 PM

http://www.musicbanter.com/showpost....postcount=1471

a bunch of their stuff if anyone was considering getting into them or filling gaps in your collection. I'm not sure if it's everything they've done but nonetheless, a lot.

tdoc210 10-18-2006 03:32 PM

its basically all their stuff

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-18-2006 03:34 PM

Thats pretty much all of it

The only things I can`t see are the Bag Full Of Thoughts E.P. & Zaireeka
