I care enough about them to at least download it and give it a listen, I really really really hope I'll be pleasantly surprised. But to me, the description of 'it's chilled out and beachy" just screams THIS ALBUM WILL BE DULL!!!!!1 Low expectations means I won't be disappointed. |
True.
But weren't there any songs off their last album that you liked? I mean there change in sound wasn't *that* drastic. We're not talking the difference between Uplift Mofo Party Plan and By the Way here... |
Chilis late 90s early 00s stuff >>>>> Their 80s. Unpopular musical opinion there for ya, but then again I don't really care for the Chilis.
Erm, Crawl and Cold Desert were/are good songs. They're an American Southern/Garage Rock band... why are they making 'beachy' music? |

Wait for the album to come out before you pass judgement... |

Wow, so little love for Only By The Night... its a good enough album, not as good as earlier material, but I think we gotta give 'em a chance to rebound a bit... and as it is it's not like Only By The Night is unlistenable, it's just a bit more mainstream... and really, the mainstream needs a bit of help as I see it... so maybe KoL's contribution wouldn't be a terrible thing...

I don't turn my nose up if a band goes mainstream, 2 of the first bands I got into were Oasis and Blur, they were as mainstream as they come but their music was at a high quality , OBTN turned me completely off the band. Not because of the mass appeal and the sales and the radio play, because that kind of stuff just doesn't matter to me. I just thought it was a terribly dull album and I can't appreciate the band anymore because of it. I used to listen to them none stop and now I just can't bring myself to listen to their first 2 albums, not sure why because they're still the same albums I loved 3 years ago.

I really liked the latest released one. On holiday I actually favoured it a few times to my usual stuff.
