Somerset is too far away.
I'm loving the new album though, 'The Neutral' is my fave so far.

So a while ago someone said that I should listen to Day Dream Nation. I did. I hated it. I couldn't get into it at all. I guess what always bothered me the most is that I'm typical person that should eat that up. I love pretty much most and close to all indie grunge. I recently downloaded Washing Machine for the hell of it and I'm in love. I heard a couple songs off of Sonic Nurse and they sounded pretty neat so I'm going to check that out as well.

Daydream Nation was, to me at least, slightly inconsistent, with some good tracks, some ok tracks, and a couple really amazing tracks. I don't see how you could not like "Teenage Riot." But, as much as I'd like it to be, it's not really one of my favorite albums just because I've always felt it was missing something. It might be a good enough flow so I don't end up changing it after about four songs or maybe some of the tracks really are just weak, I'm not sure.
But, still a very good album, in my opinion. |

I think was a pretty decent start for Sonic Youth I like the way it sounds murky and the underground feel. Shes in a Bad Mood, The World Looks Red and Confusion is Next are really good songs. And on Kill Yr Idols the title track and Brother James rock.

Daydream Nation seems to be an album that divides opinion more than most. If you look at the comments on Amazon, lots of people say that they absolutely hated the album on first listen, but the more they listened, the better it became, until eventually, perfection. This is certainly true for me, as well.
As it stands, Daydream Nation is the only album I've heard which I'd give a perfect rating to. When listened to from start to finish (and I mean REALLY listened to, not just casual "oh i'll stick this on while I'm browsing the internet" crap), it's the most powerful thing I've ever heard. It's so dystopic, so chaotic, it perfectly captures a sense of disillusionment. Yes, I'm a ****ing fanboy. I like most other Sonic Youth albums quite a lot, but none can come close to DDN. For me, Sister is the overrated Sonic Youth album (although still good). I mean, Hotwire my Heart...my god, no. I like Confusion is Sex, as well. Lots of cool guitar techniques that they never really fully utilized again. |

EVOL is the only other Sonic Youth album that comes close to Daydream Nation for me. Although Sister and Goo are fantastic albums.
I also think Rather Ripped was the best album last year.
