OK so I really like Daydream Nation, but I never bothered digging deeper into their stuff so um, what's next? I'd like somethign like Daydream Nation, but a bit more experimental and preferrably one that doesn't have too much focus on Kim Gordon cos I'm not into her voice too much.

I think this is my first time posting in the indie/alternative subforum. So hello there!

I've been listening to a bit of Sonic Youth. They've been a tough artist for me because as cool as they seem they have never really clicked with me. Might not be my thing, or I simply haven't put enough effort into listening to them...can't figure it out. I'm a bit out of my element with them as far as music type, but they seem like a neat band so I'd like to keep trying.

I have the trilogy of Evol/Sister/Daydream Nation that I'm listening to on occasion, but so far I haven't felt much. Sometimes I enjoy myself while listening to them and sometimes I end up getting bored and not paying any attention.

You should try some of their early 90's major-label stuff instead maybe. Goo and Dirty are a bit more accessible than EVOL, Sister and Daydream Nation but both are still cracking albums.

Speaking of Sister it's often been said that 'Schizophrenia' sums up what Sonic Youth are all about. It's got everything that makes them so great.

No. There are plenty more guitarists way more underrated than him. That is if I'm understanding what you're saying, because this is a completely random post. Anyways, Sonic Youth has a pretty good guitarist. I have heard a few of their songs, such as "3's & 7's". I'm not a big fan, but they're better than a lot of these other crap bands.

Which guitarist? Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore or Kim Gordon? I've seen Lee and Thurston mentioned in plenty of best guitarist lists, they wouldn't be ranked too high but their influence is certainly acknowledged.

Also, who are these other crap bands you speak of?

Kim Gordon wasn't really anything special playing guitar. Better with bass. Prefer Lee IMO.

What I'm saying is that Sonic Youth is better than a lot of other bands out there. Also, I'm assuming AlonLBling was reffering to Thurston Moore, but I can't say for sure. Only that question could be answered by him.
