I've been really into Rain King recently. Hearing it on the live version of Daydream Nation has suddenly made me realise how good it is after all. That guitar...

When people think Sonic Youth, they don't think fantastic musicianship. But Lee Renaldo and Thurston Moore are excellent guitarists for their techniques alone. Such as making third bridges out of screwdrivers and drumsticks. Though now they play their own custom made 3rd bridge guitars.
The structure of their playing is very unique, some of their compositions even remind me of Gamelan music. Last edited by boo boo; 07-17-2007 at 09:23 PM. |

not a band to tap yer friggin feet to. But they are a band to get a ton of inspiration from. Listen to these albums more than a couple times..... and don't wait for the hooks. Not a damn pop band..a band for people who love music.....and or love to make music..... real art.

Just saw them play Daydream Nation
Absolutely mesmerizing. Is anyone else seeing/seen them? Also, I'm bumping this because the front page of this "indie" section needs a good band, as just now...well the less said about those, the better. |

yeah i saw sonic youth at the Pitchfork Music Festival and i couldn't believe how they can still kill the stage plus the fact that they are pretty old AND they still ended up being way better than their opener THE WU TANG CLAN

Daydream Nation September 1st London. There is only one gig in the world that matters right now. Or the other 2 as well.
